Pence: I'm confident no one on my staff wrote the NYT column

Pence denies discussing invoking 25th Amendment against Trump

Pence said he hadn't asked his aides because he doesn't need to.

"If they are a senior administration official, that they are violating an oath, not to the president, but to the Constitution".

Speaking to CBS's Face the Nation in an interview to be broadcast in full on Sunday, Pence also denied that White House officials had discussed invoking the 25th amendment and removing Trump from power.

He also disputed Bob Woodward's claim in new book, "Fear: Trump in the White House", that former White House economic adviser Gary Cohn removed a document from Trump's desk that would have withdrawn USA from the South Korea Free Trade Agreement.

"It also tells me that he's about the staunchest supporter that the president has, and he basically wants to go there and say, 'I was there, and I didn't see anything wrong, '" Napolitano added. Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has said Trump would be justified in using lie detectors to ferret out the anonymous essay writer.

Both also said they had no idea who wrote the piece.

US willing to talk with China: White House adviser
China plans to tax an additional $60 billion in U.S. products if the Trump administration expands its hit list by $200 billion. He pointed out that 23 per cent of the impending tariffs on US$200 billion of Chinese imports targeted consumer products.

The search for the mysterious New York Times op-ed author is ongoing and it appears all the top members of the Trump administration are suspects.

With Trump having clearly expressed his ire over the anonymous op-ed, White House staffers toggled between playing down the significance of the criticism and denouncing the author. "But he makes the decisions, and that's why we've made the progress we've made". But it would not be unprecedented for a member of the national security team to buck the president, according to a book to be published next week by the reporter Bob Woodward.

Neither Mr Pence nor Ms Conway answered directly when asked if Mr Sessions should treat the President's comments as an order.

After the publication of the op-ed earlier this week, Trump questioned whether the New York Times was guilty of treason and called for the paper to turn the source over to the White House.

Senior White House counselor Kellyanne Conway was asked whether she could offer a justification for the president's demand for a Department of Justice investigation. The book "Fear: Trump in the White House" will be in stores this week, but excerpts have been widely reported. "I think the president's concern is that this individual may have responsibilities in the area of national security".

In the Face the Nation interview, Pence said he has not been asked to sit down for an interview with Mueller amid the ongoing probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election but that he would be open to doing so.
