Trump Knocks Woodward Book As ‘Total Joke,’ Vows To Write ‘Real Book’

As if the release of "Fear" weren't bad enough for the president, September 5 saw the publication of an anonymous op-ed in the New York Times that was written by a frustrated senior official in his administration and-like Woodward's book-painted a very negative picture of Trump's presidency.

Woodward in the book recounts how Defense Secretary James Mattis had to explain to Trump why the United States pays $3.5 billion a year to station 28,000 troops in South Korea.

The people who work for Trump worry that Trump will give orders that threaten the security of the country or the world, Woodward said. Whatever the flaws of Mr Trump's predecessors, they all tried to the best of their ability to do what they believed were good things for their country. "They are secret. They are called special access programs, and he jeopardizes them".

"Time and time again people will deny things", Woodward says.

Woodward depicts Trump as a loose cannon who insults his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, calling him a "dumb southerner" and "mentally retarded"-and giving how important the southern states are to the Republican Party, that is hardly the type of publicity Trump needs".

In his interview with NPR, Woodward also addresses the anonymous op-ed published in The New York Times shortly after the first excerpts of his book were circulating. He said he had talked to more than 100 people, and that half of them are key sources for the book.

Trump has called the forthcoming book "total fiction - just like he wrote in the past about other presidents".

NAFTA talks to resume in afternoon after Canada cites 'goodwill'
Mexican officials stressed in a joint statement that they are "continuing to promote an agreement to which Canada is a party". Mulroney orchestrated the original Canada-Free Trade Agreement in 1988, which evolved into the current NAFTA agreement.

The president is displeased with White House Deputy Chief of Staff Bill Shine in particular because Trump thinks he wasn't able to push back the claims made in the expose.

He said Mattis and Kelly are not being truthful, characterizing their denials as "political statements to protect their jobs".

"If that person had come to me while I was working on this book or if it were someone I interviewed I would say, 'I need specifics.' The building blocks of journalism, of truth, are specific incidents". Democrats can't stand losing.

Richard Painter, who served as Chief Ethics Lawyer for former president George W. Bush, wrote that Sanders was "misusing her official position" by attacking the newspaper and her tweet was "a direct affront to the First Amendment". The president has yet to say whether he'd go that far, but Pence says he'd be willing to submit to such an examination.

At a National Security Council meeting, Trump disregarded the significance of the U.S. military presence on the Korean Peninsula, including an intelligence operation that allows officials to detect North Korean missile launches within seconds. It's very important whether this is somebody who witnessed and participated.

She said there could be a criminal aspect to the writing of the opinion piece - though she was unable to say exactly how the author might have broken the law when it appears that the act of disloyalty amounted to exercising the right to free expression.

Both have enraged the President and led to new levels of suspicion among his staff, many of whom were already at odds with each other.
