Obama speaks at U of I: Trump is ‘capitalizing on resentment’

US President Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally at Ford Center in Evansville Indiana

Barack Obama delivered a very passionate speech meant to remind the citizens that they need to defend and protect Democracy and that voting is a big part of what they can actively do to achieve that.

"The status quo pushes back", he said.

Mr Trump was dismissive of Obama's speech. The alternative of sitting on the sidelines given all of these factors, he explained, was simply not an option.

Obama's criticism extended beyond Trump, to the party he now leads, the Republican-led Congress and members of his Administration.

"Former presidents generally have avoided critiquing their successors, but Obama has not kept up that tradition, having made a number of critical remarks about Trump since he left office in January 2017".

After his predecessor took the unusual step of criticizing him by name in a speech Friday, President Donald Trump shot back with childish attacks and blatant lies.

"He's just capitalizing on resentments that politicians have been fanning for years", he said.

Remember, everyone - you have to vote!

New Yorker capitulates after liberal outrage over Steve Bannon interview
It's obvious that no matter how tough the questioning, Bannon is not going to burst into tears and change his views of the world. Now, white nationalists get to play their favorite game, portraying Bannon as a victim of PC culture and the mainstream media.

To hear Ben Shapiro tell it, Obama's speech was too much of a lecture.

"The point Washington made", Obama said, speaking from a stage in rural IL, "is that it's essential to American democracy that in a government of and by and for the people, there should be no permanent ruling class".

Obama's campaign activity will continue through October and will include fundraising appearances, according to an Obama adviser.

Now, as 2018 midterm campaign season gets underway, it's likely a very public Trump-versus-Obama showdown becomes a defining storyline of the year.

"We're supposed to stand up to discrimination", he said. "These people aren't elected", Obama said in a speech at the University of IL at Urbana Champaign. A top focus of his efforts will be helping Democrats retake the House, which he will kick off on Saturday with a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee rally in Orange County, California, for the seven Democrats running there in Republican-held districts Hillary Clinton won in 2016. The former president is also slated to campaign in IL and September later this month, and will headline a fundraiser for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee in New York City.

"It shouldn't be Democratic or Republican to say we don't target certain groups of people based on what they look like or how they pray".

Next week, Obama plans to campaign in Ohio for Richard Cordray, the Democratic nominee for governor, and Ohio Democrats.

"You've got to do more than retweet a hashtag, you've got to vote", he said.
