Sasmung says "time to deliver" on folding smartphone

Samsung Moves To Mid-Range Phones For Mobile Growth

Samsung is not the only manufacturer which plans to launch a foldable phone this year; Chinese smartphone manufacturer is also working on its foldable smartphone.

According to DJ Koh, head of Samsung's mobile division who told CNBC, that the South Korean giant aims to prioritize mid-range devices over flagship models in terms of adding new features.

While Koh suggested that more details about the device would likely be revealed in November, coinciding with Samsung's developer conference, he did not indicate when the device would be unveiled.

Unfortunately, Koh was not willing to share any specifics about the foldable display. When unfolded, the device will offer a different experience than a tablet. Samsung doesn't want the phone to become a tablet and has devised a unique experience for it. He said the "complicated" development process is "nearly concluded".

Federer clarifies joke about retirement after US Open win
The Serb, a two-time champion, faces American Tennys Sandgren, while 2006 victor Sharapova plays Sorana Cirstea. This year he says regaining the US Open title is one of his "bigger priorities".

Unlike the ZTE Axon M, Samsung's own phone is expected to have a flexible screen and not a hinge connecting two screens. Koh didn't wish to give away too much information about the upcoming launch but indicated that the device would still be useful when folded closed and he hinted that Samsung was still searching for defining marketing messages to sell such a phone. The advances in OLED technology, which the smartphone giant now has a lead in terms of maturity, suggest a single-screen device with a flexible and foldable display. It's just under four months before the end of 2018, and that means we should be seeing the first "innovative" Galaxy A handset anytime now. Why now, though? Samsung conducted consumer surveys on the topic and now feels confident there is a market for a folding phone (not to be confused with a flip phone).

'So when the end customer uses it, [they think] "wow, this is the reason Samsung made it"'.

When not in use, the secondary display can be turned into a touchpad, which could see it turned into a gaming console rather like Nintendo's DS range.
