Dramatic pictures as California wildfire gets perilously close to homes

'This place will burn,' says text allegedly sent by man arrested in connection with California fire

The blaze is affecting two of the state's counties - Orange and Riverside.

Mandatory evacuations were lifted Saturday for the communities of Horsethief, McVicker Canyon and Rice Canyon.

The Holy Fire broke out on the afternoon of July 6 near Holy Jim and Trabuco Canyon roads, on the west side of the Santa Ana Mountains.

All schools in the Menifee Unified School District in Riverside County were closed Thursday due to poor air quality caused by the fire, and the campuses will remain shuttered Friday.

Forrest Clark made several outbursts during the hearing in Orange County, at times refusing to show his face, local media reported. At least 12 structures have been destroyed. A court commissioner postponed his arraignment until August 17 and ordered bail to remain at $1 million.

Firefighters, aided by cooler weather, have however made good progress against a blaze burning for almost a month near Yosemite National Park in the northern part of the state. "This should be called the Holy Hell Fire".

In 2012, the news report said, Mary Masayo Clark was granted a temporary restraining order against her son, a man named Forrest Clark, whose birth date is the same as the man arrested in connection with the fire.

"Until this thing is barking at my door, I'm going to stick with it", he said.

Other large fires are also continuing to drain resources and push firefighters to exhaustion.

Over 600 firefighters are battling the Holy Fire, which is just one of 18 wildfires raging across the state.

According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday, he is charged with aggravated arson, arson of inhabited property, arson of forest, criminal threats, two counts of resisting and deterring an executive officer and arson burning multiple structures.

Crews braced for "extreme fire behavior" over the weekend, according to the federal fire information website InciWeb.

A U.S. Forest Service spokesman said more than a dozen cabins in Clark's neighborhood had burned.

Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer had harsh words for Clark, saying that if he is convicted he "needs to suffer the fullest punishment of the law". It's burning along with the largest fire in California state history, the Mendocino Complex Fire which is over 302,086 acres.

In the south, Cleveland National Forest officials tweeted that the flames outside Los Angeles were growing as fast as crews can build lines to contain them. Two other people, a state fire heavy equipment mechanic assigned to the fire and a utility worker trying to restore power near the fire, have died in auto accidents.

The Smoke Advisory issued on Tuesday morning due to smoke impact from the Holy Fire remains in effect until further notice.
