Anderson`s fifer knocks India out for 107 in Lord`s Test

India vs England 2nd Test at Lord's: India lose openers cheaply again before rain stops play on day 2

England have yet to decide whether Chris Woakes, a fellow pace-bowling all-rounder, or off-spinner Moeen Ali will replace Stokes.

England were 230 for five in reply to India's meagre 107, a lead of 123 runs, at tea on the third day.

In a day deeply affected by the weather, England cashed in on conditions and put India's batsmen to the sword.

Jos Buttler was the one wicket to fall in the afternoon session, trapped lbw for a breezy 24 by the impressive Mohammed Shami who claimed three wickets.

England debutant Ollie Pope kept his composure, however, the 20-year-old Surrey batsman sprinting in from point to remove the bails rather than shying at the stumps.

Both teams had made changes from the first Test with India making two changes from Edgbaston and opting for a twin spin bowling attack. But Kuldeep rarely troubled Bairstow, who cover-drove him for four to complete a 76-ball fifty featuring seven boundaries.

Dravidian icon M Karunanidhi passes away at the age of 94
Kalaignar means artist in Tamil, and the reference is a nod to his widely recognised contributions to film and literature. He led DMK to victory in 1996, but AIADMK under Jayalalithaa trumped his party once again in 2001.

With the forecast set fair for Saturday, it will be the turn of England's batsmen to drive home the advantage given to them by their bowlers on a day where there were two stoppages for rain spanning more than five hours.

On Friday, during the rain-affected day two of the second Test, Arjun, who is now in London for a training session with MCC Young Cricketers, helped out the grand staff at Lord's.

England's lead passed 200 soon afterwards but Bairstow was unable to join Woakes in reaching three figures as he went for a big drive and edged Pandya (2-66) behind, Dinesh Karthik taking a superb one-handed catch as he dived full length to his right.

What's done is done, though, and India will look for a disciplined bowling performance to get back into the game.

The last time a day's Test play was washed out completely at Lord's came 17 years ago when the scheduled opening day of the first Test against Pakistan was abandoned on May 17, 2001.
