Ohio State Board of Trustees Forms Group to Investigate Urban Meyer

Buckeyes Headlines Urban Meyer releases statement regarding Zach Smith allegations Eamon Queeney The Columbus Dispatch

Meyer's punishment stems from a statement made at Big Ten media days July 24 - one day after Smith was sacked - denying that he knew anything about the alleged incidents in 2015.

Zach Smith's ex-wife said this week that she had shared texts with Meyer's wife detailing years of domestic violence.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Friday he followed proper reporting protocols regarding domestic violence allegations against an assistant coach in 2015.

Meyer concluded by saying that he hoped the OSU community would support Buckeye coaches and players, who began preseason training camp on Friday, "and I look forward to rejoining them soon". "I take that responsibility very seriously and any suggestion to the contrary is simply false".

Two days after being placed on paid administrative lead, Urban Meyer has broken his silence.

When asked about the accusations during Big Ten Media Days, Meyer told reporters: "I can't say it didn't happen because I wasn't there". "However, I was not adequately prepared to discuss these sensitive issues with the media, and I apologize for the way I handled those questions".

Thousands Evacuate due to Mendocino Fires
The practice of back-burning is seen as a last resort measure to stop the further spread of fire from particular areas. The fire was nearly 35 percent contained, and thousands of residents were allowed to return to their neighborhoods.

Meyer issued the statement while Smith was giving an interview to ESPN.

Courtney Smith, however, said in an interview with Stadium, a sports network, on Wednesday that Zach Smith had been abusing her as early as 2009. After speaking to the police, Zach Smith went to practice and briefed Meyer on the situation.

I've written this before and I will reiterate it here: Ohio State should not have to fire Meyer because Meyer should voluntarily step down on his own for being an incredible hypocrite. I volunteered to do that. If I hit her, I wouldn't even come to work.

The assistant Meyer fired, Zach Smith, also spoke up, denying he abused his wife, backing his former boss and placing Ohio State's athletic director into the middle of the picture. "I never hit her, I never got arrested, never got charged, I got investigated twice, and no charges came about because I didn't do anything physically to harm her". I do feel it necessary to share the truth with the Buckeye family.

When Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith was sacked in the wake of a May criminal trespass charge and a following domestic violence civil order filed against him by his ex-wife Courtney, his lawyer said Smith wasn't going to talk outside of court.

Meyer's statement was read to Zach Smith during his interview with ESPN. First I heard about that was last night. He's alleging he did everything right in a bad situation, correctly handling allegations against a coach who maintains publicly that he did nothing wrong, a coach he turned around and fired three years later when similar allegations arose. I believed that personal matters, marital matters, needed to remain personal and between a husband and wife. I was at all the meetings, I knew exactly what he knew. "It was nothing, I was actually asleep when she came to do this, and I woke up and tried to grab the can of dip to not have it happen, and here we are". Like I said, it was a toxic relationship. "I never beat her. Nothing". Now it's time to ask why Meyer thought a coach he'd already fired, for allegations that had already gone public, was worth lying about at all. "Just stay away", Courtney Smith responded.
