Rand Paul Announces He’ll Support Kavanaugh for Supreme Court

Schumer calls on Bush to release Kavanaugh White House documents

Republican Senator Rand Paul, who expressed skepticism and opposition to President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, has made a decision about whether he will vote in favor of his confirmation. This strategy has been obvious from the start, and its goal is less to defeat Judge Kavanaugh than to protect incumbent Democrats running for re-election. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.), one of three Democrats who supported Neil Gorsuch previous year for the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh was sitting down Monday with Sen. Mr. Paul had expressed some misgivings about the judge's views on collecting metadata and other libertarian hobby-horses.

On issues such as property rights and reining in the administrative state, Judge Kavanaugh has a strong record and showed a deep commitment during our meeting.

- Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) July 30, 2018Of course, my vote is not a single-issue vote, and much of my reading and conversation has been in trying to figure out exactly how good Judge Kavanaugh will be on other issues before the Court.

"I believe he will carefully adhere to the Constitution and will take his job to protect individual liberty seriously", Paul said in a statement.

Shareholders approve Disney's $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox
Both companies' investors reportedly approved in separate votes at the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan. Justice Department, but was also awaiting the approval of the Federal Communications Commission.

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) says Democrats ought to only request "relevant" Brett Kavanaugh records from his time in Bush White House.

Klayman put Kavanaugh at odds with Paul, who has repeatedly maintained that, "the bulk collection of all Americans' phone records all of the time is a direct violation of the Fourth Amendment". Susan Collins, R-Maine or Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, don't pull a surprise 180 and turn on Trump's nominee.

Politico doesn't charge for access to its website, and one reason is headlines like this from Monday: "Inside Democrats' strategy to defeat Kavanaugh: Schumer is pushing red-state Democrats to stay neutral for as long as possible and raising pressure on moderate Republicans".

Republicans have a 51-49 advantage, but Republican Sen.

Both senators support abortion rights, and liberal advocacy groups have argued that Kavanaugh's confirmation would undermine Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Jon Tester (D-MT), and Joe Donnelly (D-IN) back Kavanaugh as well.
