Harley goes adventure-touring | Meet the Pan America 1250

Harley Davidson Pan America

The new small H-D is primarily intended for the India market.

Laying out a plan it calls "More Roads to Harley-Davidson", the company expects to spend $675 million U.S. to $825 million United States over the next four years, looks to chop costs and generate more than $1 billion USA of incremental annual revenue in 2022.

The company's growth plan through 2022 includes attracting those who have never owned a motorcycle, developing smaller urban dealerships and "unlocking new markets and segments", the company said in a statement Monday.

American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has just announced its latest strategy which sets out its roadmap for the coming years.

"Our preference is to make motorcycles in the U.S. for the world market", he said.

Harley Davidson has announced that it will be launching a new adventure motorcycle, the Pan America, in 2020. Harley-Davidson's President and CEO Matt Levatich has stated that he is pushing hard to reverse the company's state of affairs, and defended the decision to shift production elsewhere from USA due to increased European Union tariffs - fuelled by Donald Trump's domestic enforcements.

Trump may be the greatest free-trade president ever
Either a country which has treated the United States unfairly on Trade negotiates a fair deal, or it gets hit with Tariffs. The shrewdly targeted retaliation of European and other US trade partners has also proved inconvenient to the president.

"The accelerated strategy will require significant investment to change the trajectory of the business globally, and the company plans to fund it entirely through comprehensive cost reduction and reallocation of previously planned investment and resources", Harley said.

For starters, Harley-Davidson will continue to develop improved, more technologically-advanced Touring and Cruiser motorcycles that will keep existing Harley-Davidson riders engaged and riding longer.

LiveWire will be followed by additional models through 2022 to broaden the portfolio with lighter, smaller and even more accessible product options. "It's risky to think that motorcyclists aren't open-minded about other products and other brands", Levatich said.

Harley last week forecast a lower-than-expected hit to profit margins from Trump's trade tariffs, despite rising raw materials costs and higher tariffs on bikes shipped to Europe.

Sales have fallen in the past year, and Harley-Davidson stock has declined 15 percent so far this year.
