Senior Trump Admin Official Implies Trump's Backtrack Was a Lie

By Canadian Press

While taking questions from reporters at a Cabinet meeting, Trump said, "Thank you very much, no," after Cecilia Vega, ABC News' White House correspondent, asked whether the United States was still a target of Russian-led cyberattacks and election meddling.

The White House and the State Department are at odds over Russian President Vladimir Putin's offer to allow the U.S. access to Russians accused of election meddling in return for interviews of Americans accused by the Kremlin of unspecified crimes.

"We believe the threat still exists", she told reporters Wednesday, explaining that the president's earlier statement was in response to a different question. On North Korea, Trump said the Russian president "agrees with what I'm doing and that I'm doing a great job".

In a statement, Judy Jenner, a spokeswoman for the American Translators Association, said, "We have codes of ethics for many fields of interpreting. but I do not see how those codes of ethics would supersede a congressional subpoena". Ms Sanders said Mr Trump meant he did not want to answer questions.

"And in that meeting, we discussed many, many things that were very, very positive for both countries", he said.

"The sentence should have been, "I don't see any reason why I wouldn't, or why it wouldn't be Russia" instead of "why it would", Trump said on Tuesday of the comments he had made standing alongside Vladimir Putin on the summit stage in Helsinki.

In an unprecedented attack, former Central Intelligence Agency director and ardent Trump critic John Brennan, tweeted that Trump's "news conference performance" was "nothing short of treasonous".

Trump has said in an interview with CBS News that he told Putin that the United States won't tolerate election interference in the future.

Pompeo says North Korea deal 'may take some time'
Part of the reason for the delay is logistics related . "That's the commitment", he said. Trump said he discussed North Korea with Putin on Monday at their summit in Helsinki.

"I have said that numerous times before, and I would say that that is true, yeah", Trump said.

But Trump stopped short of saying that if the intelligence services were correct in their assessment, then Putin must be lying. Vega said on Twitter that she thought the president was responding to her question, not ushering reporters out.

"I let him know we can't have this".

"Just because that somebody was simply red-headed, they were accused of being some sort of spy for Russian Federation".

When asked whether there were concerns about the president's credibility given Trump's reversal of his remarks about Russian Federation on Tuesday, Sanders was quick to note she wasn't clarifying anything on Wednesday.

He thinks it's a good thing to get along with the other person that controls that much of the nuclear arsenal across the globe.

The Russian claims against the Americans, including former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, relate to allegations of fraud and corruption. "Sort of a double negative".

Trump also said in the television interview that he accepted Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats' assessment that Russian Federation continues to be a threat to US elections.
