Paul: Putin will never admit to election hack

Pres. Donald J Trump

I find it hard to believe, but that's what one of the purposes of this meeting is so the president can see eye to eye with President Putin and ask him about it, " Bolton said.

The president is keep expectations low the summit, but says he may come out with some very surprising things. While Putin has long denied Russian involvement and did so again Monday, the USA intelligence community has long maintained that Russia did, in fact, meddle in the US election, and just three days ago, the Justice Department indicted 12 Russian government agents for hacking the Democratic Party during the 2016 election.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has warned US President Donald Trump against making any unilateral deals with Russian Federation that come with a cost for the United States' Western allies. The indictment, announced hours ago by Rosenstein, targets 12 Russian intelligence officers for engaging in a sustained effort to hack networks of Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic National Committee, and Hillary Clinton's campaign.

In another interview published ahead of his summit with the Russian leader, Trump said Putin was "probably" a "ruthless person". I believe that having a meeting with Chairman Kim [Jong Un of North Korea] was a good thing. "That's a really good thing", he said. "They want to do well and we want to do well". Naming the Kremlin in his list, Trump said, "Russia's a foe in certain respects".

Trump declined to offer his goals for the first summit between the two world leaders, but promised that "nothing bad" would come out of it. Trump and Putin have talked previously on the sidelines of global gatherings.

When "CBS Evening News" anchor Jeff Glor asked Trump who is his "biggest foe globally right now", Trump named the European Union, members of which are some of America's oldest and closest global allies.

He also criticised special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation stemming from the alleged election meddling by Russian Federation in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, calling it a "rigged witch hunt".

"I'm concerned about the use of bias against President Trump and absolutely with the president on this".

Trump, in Britain over the weekend for a state visit, went on to say he anticipates getting along with Putin, who he has met with before.

In his prior role at the CIA, Pompeo vowed to fight Russian interference in USA elections later this year.

"Heading to Helsinki, Finland - looking forward to meeting with President Putin tomorrow", Trump tweeted.
