Newspaper headlines: PM warns ‘there may be no Brexit’

UK Government publishes White Paper on Brexit

Moments earlier, the prime minister lost a Brexit vote as MPs voted for continued United Kingdom involvement in the EU's regulatory system for medicines.

"With less than nine months until the UK's exit from the European Union, there is little time for both sides to reach agreement on key issues for our sector, such as aviation safety oversight, customs arrangements and environmental standards".

The successful amendment requires Mrs May to make it an objective in negotiations with Brussels to ensure that the United Kingdom can continue to participate in the regulatory network operated by the European Medicines Agency.

British Prime Minister Theresa May rejected on Monday the suggestion that the Brexit negotiating strategy she agreed with her cabinet earlier this month was dead, and denied she had caved to pressure from eurosceptics.

The Labour leader looks certain to confront her over the turmoil in Tory ranks over her Brexit plans.

Whatever the proposal on the table, there will be MPs who vote it down.

On Monday, prominent Tory backbencher Justine Greening called for a second referendum, claiming another vote is the only way to resolve the parliamentary stalemate.

They and other eurosceptic Conservatives say the plan to keep close trade ties with the European Union - which is only a starting point for a second phase of talks with Brussels - betrays her promise of a clean break with the 27-nation bloc after Brexit.

Trump to talk to Russia's Putin about substantially reducing nuclear weapons
I don't think he'll have any 'Gee, I did it, I did it, you got me, ' Trump predicted of his meeting with the former KGB colonel. They had been told by the White House not to expect access to the president on Saturday.

Defense Minister Guto Bebb resigned so he could vote against the government.

"We hope this white paper will be a catalyst for accelerating the United Kingdom government's negotiations with the European Union".

To dispel the Tory infighting on Tuesday, May is expected to ask MPs to vote to start the parliament's summer recess on Thursday, five days before the expected end to the political season.

That, in turn, will prove the PM with a clear sense of how many MPs would be willing to vote against a final Brexit agreement this Autumn - so it's a big deal. Hammond told MPs: "This does not undermine the bill, it keeps it on the road". Unless the Article 50 period is extended-which requires the consent of European Union member states-the United Kingdom will leave the European Union next March.

She said: "I voted to Remain originally but I don't think we should now back down".

In the afternoon Mrs May faces a lengthy appearance before the Commons liaison committee where senior MPs of all parties will grill her on her Brexit strategy.

Another Conservative Party legislator, Anna Soubry, who opposes the "hard" Brexit that would see Britain leave the European Union without a trade deal in place, said the government's acceptance of the four amendments mean that Rees-Mogg is now effectively "running Britain".

Speaking after the vote on the key Brexit bill, Mr Lee said: "I want my Prime Minister to be able to do the very best for this country".
