Lazio join Liverpool in race to sign Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool transfer news Xherdan Shaqiri Man Utd

Liverpool have been linked with Shaqiri for weeks now, as they attempt to grab a bargain from relegated side Stoke, but it now appears that the move is drawing closer to reality.

Lazio are ready to challenge Liverpool for the signing of Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Switzerland global is looking for a move back to the Premier League after Stoke's relegation to the Championship and it looks like Liverpool will be his new club.

Shaqiri joined Stoke from Bayern Munich in 2015 and has two years remaining on his deal but the Championship side are resigned to him moving this summer and they want the business wrapped up quickly.

With Switzerland back from the World Cup after being eliminated by Sweden in the Round of 16, negotiations can progress and Shaqiri "has been considering his options since his involvement in Russian Federation was ended".

Liverpool, who defeated local rivals Tranmere 3-2 on Tuesday night, head to the United States on July 21 for a week-long tour that will see them play games against Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Klopp, meanwhile, remains keen to add at least one more attacking midfielder to his squad this summer. Liverpool have been trying to reignite a deal despite a hands-off warning issued before the World Cup.

Calls for Liverpool to sign a goalkeeper were intensified after Loris Karius' mistake against Tranmere this week, but the club have made no progress with regards to a move for Alisson Becker, their preferred target.
