Trump releases letter from Kim Jong Un, touts "great progress"

Trump: Kim Will Get 'Rocket Man' CD Later, Plus Surprise 'Little Gift'

As part of their agreement, Kim pledged to abandon the nuclear weapons his country developed to deter a potential invasion, while Trump has said he would guarantee Kim's security, ultimately lift sanctions and potentially establish an official peace in a decades-long conflict on the Korean Peninsula.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed to the "immediate repatriation" of remains that had already been identified (between 200 and 250 soldiers) during a June 12 meeting with President Donald Trump in Singapore.

It comes after Mr Trump released a "very nice note" from Mr Kim, signalling his optimism about efforts to end the nuclear stand-off with North Korea. That's when Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Pyongyang and seemingly made little progress in fleshing out details of North Korea's commitment for "complete denuclearization".

"Rocket Man" is a nickname Trump used to mock Kim past year when the two traded insults over North Korea's testing of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles targeted at the US.

He also agreed to repatriate remains of USA troops who died during the Korean War six decades ago.

North Korean officials skipped planned talks on repatriating the remains of American war dead Thursday in the latest snub of a USA administration eager to show progress on efforts to rid the communist state of nuclear weapons.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said North Korea called at midday Thursday and offered to meet on Sunday instead.

"The road ahead will be hard and challenging and we know that critics will try to minimize the work that we've achieved", he said.

It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the postponement.

"The US wanted to have talks as early as 12 July but the North did not seem to be ready", an unnamed Seoul official said. The talks Sunday are expected to involve officials from the Pentagon and the U.N. Command, which commanded USA -led allied forces during the war and is involved in maintaining the armistice that ended the fighting in 1953.

Flake: 'Concern' about what Trump might promise Putin
Only Trump, Putin will claim, is bold enough to toss aside these obsolete institutions and build a new foundation in their place. "We have received unequivocal assurances of the American side that Ukraine's interests are taken into account and protected".

"Look, people are going to make stray comments after meetings", Pompeo said.

Pompeo gave a rosier readout. Their recovery has always been among the most emotionally charged issues between the two sides.

President Trump met with North Korean Dictator 26 days ago.

He expressed his hope that "the invariable trust and confidence" the president has in him will be "further strengthened in the future process of taking practical actions".

But there's growing skepticism in Washington over the Trump administration's engagement with North Korea. Recent evidence actually suggests that the rogue nation continues to build up their nuclear infrastructure.

"Both the U.S. and the North are still in discussion over when to meet", the official added.

He was referring the summit statement signed by the two leaders - the first-ever U.S.

"Repatriation of US remains from North Korea will be important not just to American families, but to building trust between the USA and North Korea as well", Pompeo said earlier this week.

Trump posted the note several hours after arriving in London for his first visit to the United Kingdom, after wrapping up a contentious appearance at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit.
