United Kingdom woman dies after being exposed to nerve agent novichok

Police officer given all-clear at Salisbury Hospital after fears of nerve agent exposure

The conflicting comments on July 9 came as more details emerged about the death of Dawn Sturgess, a 44-year-old mother of three, in southern England a day earlier following what police say was an unexplained exposure to the nerve agent Novichok.

On June 30, 44-year-old Dawn Sturgess and 45-year-old Charles Rowley were hospitalized in critical condition in the British town of Amesbury. May also said her "thoughts and condolences" go to Sturgess' family and loved ones. Five hours after her collapse, police said, an ambulance was called back to the same address for Rowley, who also fell ill and was taken to the hospital.

The Kremlin, however, has continued to deny all involvement with the Novichok poisonings.

The British government has accused Russian Federation of using its streets and parks as a dumping ground for poison, D'Agata reports.

Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said: "This is shocking and tragic news".

"In the four months since the Skripals and [Detective Sergeant] Nick Bailey were poisoned, no other people besides Dawn and Charlie have presented with symptoms", Mr Basu said.

More than 100 detectives have been working alongside local officers to locate a small vial or other container thought to have held the nerve agent that sickened the two.

"Detectives are working as quickly and as diligently as possible to identify the source of the contamination, but this has not been established at this time".

"The simple reality is that Russian Federation has committed an attack on British soil which has seen the death of a British citizen", Williamson said.

Britain's Home Secretary Sajid Javid visited the areas in southwestern England over the weekend to reassure residents the risk to the public was low.

In addition to Sturgess and Rowley, 21 people have been examined by health experts over concerns they could have been exposed to the Novichok - eight police officers and staff, nine health care workers, one paramedic and three members of the public. Mr Rowley (inset), who had the highest concentrations of the nerve agent on his hands, is seen buying cans of super-strong lager and sharing a laugh with the cashier, who takes his money and packs up the alcohol for him.

Officials said they had come into contact with the deadly nerve agent Novichok, which was manufactured in the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Sergei and Yulia Skripal were both discharged from hospital in May and have been offered permanent close protection - as well as a possible settlement in the US or Australia.

Britain has blamed Russian Federation for the poisonings, but Moscow has strongly denied any involvement.

However, several sites remain closed off as police continue to investigate. The Kremlin is alarmed at the repeat poisonings that recent hit Great Britain since this poses a grave danger to all of Europe, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

On Monday, Britain's counterterrorism chief announced that investigators had determined that it was "highly likely" that this Novichok was indeed from the same batch.
