Four more boys reach Chamber 3 in cave

Elon Musk shows off 'kid-sized submarine' he thinks can help in Thai cave rescue

(Original story: July 9 @ 6:40 a.m.) - The mood is certainly changing around the flooded cave in northern Thailand where 12 members of a youth football team, and their coach, were trapped for more than two weeks.

A source involved in the rescue mission who saw two of the four boys walk out of the cave told Reuters that they looked exhausted but healthy, adding that one even looked "vivacious and fresh". Expert divers Sunday rescued four of 12 boys from a flooded cave in northern Thailand, as a unsafe and complicated operation unfolded amid heavy rain and the threat of rising water underground.

Narongsak said Monday's rescues involving 18 divers and a support team of 100 had taken nine hours, two fewer than the rescues on Sunday.

'The doctors are evaluating when the parents and other relatives can visit the boys in hospital.

After meeting with Thai SEAL officials and the other rescue teams involved in the operation, he said that this incident was a lesson to be learned and should never happen again in Thailand.

It is reported that the remaining four youngsters and their coach will remain in the cave for another night.

The boys and their coach had been stranded in Tham Luang Nang Non since June 23, when they went exploring in the cave after a scrimmage.

"If everything turns out as we've expected, whether it be the weather or readiness of the rescue team, there should be nothing to worry about", Chalongchai said.

The extreme danger of the rescue effort was underscored last week when a former Thai Navy SEAL, Samarn Poonan, died after he fell unconscious while placing oxygen tanks deep inside the cave.

Seven more boys and the coach are still trapped.

Officials lavished praise on the Thai and worldwide divers who executed the unsafe rescue mission, guiding boys who can barely swim and have no diving experience through a treacherous 4-kilometer-long (2 1/2-mile) escape route that twisted and turned and rose and fell inside the mountain cave complex. Two divers were assigned to each child to help them navigate the unsafe, narrow passageways. Divers held the first four boys close to bring them out, and each had to wear an oxygen mask to enable normal breathing, authorities said.

Narongsak said he was not sure if the remaining five people will be extracted in one or more operations.

Somboon Sompiangjai, 38, the father of one of the trapped boys, said parents were told by rescuers ahead of Sunday's operation the "strongest children" would be brought out first.

Although weak, they are largely in good health, authorities have said. More than 100 rescuers, including 18 divers, were involved in Monday's rescue effort.

Regarding Sunday's rescue, Narongsak said earlier Monday that the healthiest boys were removed first.

Getting to and from where the boys are has been an exhausting round trip, even for the experienced divers.

Pad Krapao is a basil rice meal with stir-fried pork or chicken, topped with a fried egg. One was that it was unknown how safe and dry the area where they had taken shelter would stay as Thailand's rainy season, which lasts until at least late October, picks up pace.

The president of soccer's governing body, FIFA, has invited the boys to the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday if they make it out in time.
