World powers back Iran oil exports despite US sanctions threat

GETTYPresident Hassan Rouhani warned Iran could soon halt exports of oil to neighbouring countries

"The package proposed by Europe for continuation of cooperation in the nuclear deal does not meet all our demands", Rouhani was quoted as saying by his official website. Rouhani called for a transparent operational program with a specific timetable to compensate for the United States' withdrawal from the agreement.

He gave a similar message in a call to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the president's website reported.

The Iranian president described as disappointing the bloc's package of economic measures. The proposed package "only included some general promises like previous European Union statements", Rouhani said.

In the joint statement, they reconfirmed their commitment to the deal and its "economic dividends" for Iran, which has suffered worsening financial turbulence since Trump abandoned the accord.

"We prefer to continue to stay in the nuclear deal", he told reporters.

"We have agreed ... that the experts of the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) would consider ways that would allow [us] to stick to our commitments taken under the [agreement] independently from the US, " Lavrov told journalists following a ministerial meeting of the parties to the Iran deal.

Foreign ministers of Iran and the five remaining parties to the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), are scheduled to meet in Vienna on Friday to discuss ways of maintaining the global accord after the USA pullout.

The pillars of the European Union's strategy are: European Investment Bank lending, a special measure to shield EU companies from US secondary sanctions, and a Commission proposal that EU governments make direct money transfers to Iran's central bank to avoid USA penalties.

Gareth Southgate and the secret behind England's World Cup penalty success
England's first ever penalty shootout win in a World Cup secured a quarter-final meeting with Sweden on Saturday afternoon. They're going to fancy themselves to stymie an England side that might not have the ingenuity to break them down.

As tensions grow, the U.S. president is demanding that all countries end imports of Iranian oil by 4 November, as part of a series of 12 demands aimed at forcing Iran to behave "like a normal country".

Washington has warned other countries to end trade and investment in Iran and stop buying its oil by early November or face punitive measures.

Addressing a group of veteran IRGC forces, General Jaafari said the great achievements made during Iran-Iraq eight years of sacred defense should be regarded as a memorable experience for all eras and in our efforts to address national crises and it will enable us to overcome big challenges. Further sanctions on oil and transactions with the central bank of Iran will come into effect November 6.

Also on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged all the remaining parties to stick to their obligations under the nuclear accord.

But Britain, France and Germany say they are determined to save the deal and its economic benefits for Iran.

He said the European powers but also Russian Federation and China were working on coming up with a financial mechanism to mitigate planned tough USA sanctions.

The rial currency has fallen, prices have risen and the country has been hit by street protests and strikes.

Trump also said he would reinstate sanctions on Iran and impose "the highest level" of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.
