Park Sung-hyun Wins 2nd LPGA Major in Dramatic Fashion

Lydia Ko Swings During Round Two of KPMG Women's PGA Championship

And nobody had ever shot lower than 65 in the final round of this championship, which inherited the LPGA Championship records going back to 1955.

How's a Canadian dealing with this mid-west heat so well?

A frustrating day led to an uncharacteristic outburst from Brooke Henderson.

CVS Charity Classic good luck for Henderson?

Two years on tour and two times a major victor for South Korea's Sung Hyun Park.

142 - Danielle Kang 73-69, Angel Yin 73-69, Bronte Law (ENG) 72-70, Ashleigh Buhai (RSA) 72-70, Kim Sei-young (KOR) 71-71, Park Hee-young (KOR) 71-71, Kim Hyo-joo (KOR) 70-72, Jessica Korda 67-75, Brittany Altomare 67-75. "I couldn't help that".

She also won the Meijer LPGA Classic two weeks ago in MI for her sixth LPGA Tour victory. That's when the doubters got in her ear.

"Lydia made everything, so she just made everything (look) easier", she said. "We've missed four of the last six cuts, so she's felt the pressure". She also missed a bogey putt.

After a greenside wedge shot ran too far past the hole for her liking on the 11th hole, she buried the club into her bag, snapping the shaft in two.

Hataoka recorded two eagles in her round and put a number on the leaderboard that likely got the attention of Park and Ryu.

On that first playoff hole, the hard 18th, Ryu had drained a tough birdie putt from the fringe.

Hataoka had threatened to steal a stunning victory with a 64, sitting in the clubhouse for a couple of hours to see whether her 10-under 278 total would be enough. "That's what really made me cry", Park told reporters. "She doesn't back down". "And I was able to stay relaxed down the stretch". "I thought the ball was in the water, but when I reached it and saw that it was still above ground, I almost broke my neck turning around to tell her it was playable".

From the awkward stance, Park chopped one out of the fescue and the ball landed softly to within a few feet of the cup.

Messi gets face-saving mural to match Ronaldo's
Uruguay centre-back Jose Gimenez could return to the side after missing the game with Russian Federation with a back injury. Cavani then had to be helped off by Ronaldo before watching the rest of the game from the dugout with ice on a calf injury.

Law's compatriot Charley Hull fared less well, however, as she dropped to joint 21st, firing five bogeys and two birdies to finish the round three-over par and on one under overall. She also won two tournaments, including a major tournament, and briefly took the No. 1 spot in the Rolex World Rankings in November, becoming the first rookie to do so since the ranking system was first introduced in 2006.

It was the par-3 17th hole that caught up with Ryu.

Ryu started the day in the lead and stumbled out of the gate with a double bogey on the second hole, dropping her score to nine under par. The double on No. 17 forced Ryu to refocus - and quickly, as she was running out of holes.

"I guess she's very shy, and I know because she's not really comfortable with the language in the USA and because of that she's not really speaking much on the golf course", Ryu said.

And there was to be plenty of drama over the final three holes. And she had a chance to win it on 18, only to watch her 18-foot birdie attempt role just past the edge.

Ryu had the right touch on her birdie putts on 14 and 15.

"I didn't expect it would be a playoff when I was going up", Hataoka said. Hataoka was eliminated on the first hole with a par while the two South Koreans birdied.

Play was suspended due to lightning.

The Koreans, who shared LPGA Player of the Year honors in 2017, reached the green at the par-4 16th, the second playoff role, when play was suspended for risky weather in the area, halting the drama at its peak for 20 minutes as the tension mounted.

In the second playoff hole, Park once again hit the green, leaving a 2.5-meter birdie putt, while Ryu left herself a 6-meter putt. "It was kind of up-and-down all day", said Henderson.

Park is still trying to learn to speak English.

It was a small miracle that Park even found her way into the playoff. "There's an bad lot expected of her back home in South Korea".

The 24-year-old said she drew upon her experience of winning last year's U.S. Women's Open and added, "Late in the round today, I kept thinking about what I did to win the U.S. Women's Open last year".
