Trump says he's interviewed four candidates for Supreme Court

Sen. Susan Collins R-Maine said Sunday that any judge who wants to overturn Roe v. Wade has an

Sen. Bill Nelson shed his hyper-cautious reputation Monday, declaring that he expects to vote against President Donald Trump's nominee to succeed Anthony Kennedy on the U.S. Supreme Court.

President Trump himself told reporters he had interviewed four candidates.

In the Oval Office on Monday, he said the "four potential justices" he met that morning were "incredible people in so many different ways".

Mr. Trump said last weekend that he narrowed his choice to about five candidates, including two women. CNN noted that McGahn's reassignment signals he is safe from ousting and will likely remain at the White House, while Shah may resign shortly after the process is complete.

The Maine senator said there are names on Trump's list of potential nominees she couldn't support, whom she declined to identify.

With Republicans controlling the Senate 51 to 49, Democrats must prevent any defections and win over at least one Republican if they hope to block a nominee.

"I think this confirmation will be especially important, because there are a lot of areas of constitutional law where there is uncertainty right now", he said. "He has been outstanding; his opinions are so well-written, so brilliant".

Schumer's column appeared a day after Sen.

However, the senator later said she would be looking to precedent in her vote on Supreme Court nominees, suggesting Roe v. Wade would have an impact on her decision.

Former Malaysian PM Najib Razak Arrested For Corruption
Earlier on Tuesday, Malaysia's anti-corruption agency questioned Riza Aziz , the stepson of Najib and a Hollywood film producer. The elections swept the opposition coalition, headed by 92-year-old former premier Mahathir Mohamad, to power.

Collins says a nominee who demonstrated "hostility" to the Roe decision "would not be acceptable to me".

Her view contrasted with that of many conservatives who saw Roe v. Wade as a form of activism or legislating from the bench.

Consider this: A few weeks ago, before the newest Supreme Court vacancy, Demand Justice conducted a focus group in Columbus, Ohio.

"The White House Counsel's office is overseeing a team of White House and Administration personnel from offices within the EEOB".

Joan Larsen, a former Michigan Supreme Court justice who was named to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals past year, and fellow 6th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Raymond Kethledge, are reportedly among the handful of top candidates being considered by Trump.

WASHINGTON-Though John Roberts has been chief justice of the United States for 13 years, this fall's term may see the true birth of the Roberts Court. That judicial approach typically involves a more literal interpretation of the Constitution as compared to broader rulings such as Roe. Roe, for instance, relied on a right to privacy, which is not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution. "Someone who tries to keep an open mind and perspective nominees like Brett Cavanaugh, Amy Barrett, Raymond Kethledge and Thomas Hardiman are people who have not specifically said they oppose Roe vs. Wade and their writings and their work show that they are very fair".

He has the backing of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican.

In the case of a 50-50 vote on the nominee, Vice President Mike Pence could cast the tie-breaking vote.

Pro-abortion Democrats are anxious about the possibility that Trump's replacement for Justice Anthony Kennedy will be a pro-lifer who helps overturn Roe v. Wade.
