Rams tweet out that they’re ready for LeBron James in Los Angeles

LeBron James has reached out to Kevin Durant about joining him in LA [report]

Cleveland.com's Joe Vardon is reporting that James will not exercise his player option for next season, forgoing the remaining $35.6 million on his contract to instead have his pick of teams to sign with this summer. And though sign-and-trade possibilities are theoretically still possible, National Basketball Association rules dictate that a team can't end up with a team salary more than $6 million over the luxury tax following execution of a sign-and-trade.

That was the path his friend Chris Paul took last summer when he opted into his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers and was then traded to the Houston Rockets. Even that was a remote possibility.

James opting to reach free agency works in the Lakers' favor, as they can sign him outright rather than need to complete a trade, which would make potentially acquiring Kawhi Leonard as well all the more problematic.

The way in which the eventual announcement is made remains a question mark, with James' first "Decision" in 2010 being announced during an hour-long special on ESPN. But one star player apparently got an early start.

Handy admits that he has no direct, insider knowledge of the situation or of LeBron's thought process, but he does offer some insight into what James might be thinking.

James is widely expected to choose between the Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fans in OH will now hold its breath as they prepare to experience their hometown star go through the free agency period again.

LeBron James #23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers reacts against the Golden State Warriors during Game Four of the 2018 NBA Finals at Quicken Loans Arena on June 8, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. But Cleveland's roster is in need of an overhaul, and the Cavaliers are in the hard situation of having to convince James they will continue to improve without knowing if he will be back.

LeBron James will decline his player option with the Cleveland Cavaliers and become a free agent, his agent reportedly told the franchise Friday. "So I think experience plays a big role", in winning, Simmons said.

After the departure of Kyrie Irving last summer, James has been a lone soldier for much of the year and nearly single-handedly dragged his team back to the finals. No team can offer James as much money or as many years as the Cavs.
