OnePlus promises 2 years of software updates for its smartphones

OnePlus guarantees software updates for two years, and security for three years

The models which have been finalised to receive these facilities aren't just the latest OnePlus 6 models but the company will be taking care of phones starting from the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T and it applies to all the higher spec versions in the range.

OnePlus is finally addressing one of the biggest concerns surrounding its phones since the company's inception - the longevity of software support. The OnePlus 2, being almost three years old at this point, is obviously coming to the end of its operational life.

Updates will arrive every two months on eligible handsets via an OTA (over-the-air) update, and during the first two years they will include new features and security patches alongside the latest version of the Android operating system.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez refuses to take CNN anchor’s bait to trash Democrats
She has never before held political office and ran much of her campaign while working as a bartender at Flats Fix in Union Square. She will likely go on to an easy victory in the heavily Democrat district, and become the first Latina to represent the district.

OnePlus has shared that the company will now roll out Android updates for two years after it releases a smartphone, with an additional year of Android security patch updates every two months. This means that its smartphone will get software updates for two years after launch, and security patches for three years, which is exactly what Google promises for its own devices.

The best part is that the Software Maintenance Schedule is going into effect immediately. Beta testers will be migrated to a stable version at the beginning of July.

While this gives people more reasons to buy OnePlus phones, it may also make existing owners to keep their phones for longer. With Google including OnePlus in the early stages of Android P, it seemed promising that the device would have an expedited path to the final Android P build. With devices like the Galaxy Note 8 taking a year to get Android Oreo, would you base your decision on how quickly you would get a new version of Android as to which device to purchase?
