Erdogan claims decisive victory in Turkish presidential election

President Erdogan has had opponents arrested and jailed

Tayyip Erdogan and his ruling AK Party took a comfortable lead in Turkey's presidential and parliamentary elections on Sunday, according to preliminary partial results, boosting the president's hopes of extending his 15-year rule.

Andalou put Erdogan on 53 percent of all votes with 99 percent counted. The YSK is to announce final results on Friday.

Erdogan won 52.7 percent in Turkish presidential election after 96 percent of votes were counted in Turkey on June 24. "I remember when we had to wait five days to get bread", said 56-year-old Tuncay Tek, who said he voted for Erdogan and the AKP on Sunday.

"I personally attach great importance to these values and I underline the importance of these values in many different North Atlantic Treaty Organisation capitals including Ankara when I met Turkish leaders there", Stoltenberg said.

Voting already closed last week for Turkish citizens resident overseas, with just under 1.5 million out of just over 3 million registered voters casting their ballot, a turnout of just under 49 percent.

"Here in Istanbul we won't have problems", said Selim Yönden, a ballot observer in the central Beyoğlu area.

The CHP's share of parliamentary votes, under the leadership of Kemal Kilicdaroglu, dropped by nearly 3 percentage points to 22.6 percent as compared to the results of the November 2015 elections.

As president, Erdogan himself can appoint ministers and vice presidents, approve declarations, propose a budget and decide on security policies, all without parliamentary approval.

Sunday's vote will pave the way for fully implementing new executive presidency long sought by Erdogan. "We have now fully adopted a regime of one-man rule", he told journalists at a post-election news conference.

Turkey's main opposition candidate has conceded defeat to incumbent leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the country's presidential election. But together with its ally, the Nationalist Movement Party, which outperformed at the polls, it will maintain control of the parliament.

She does not plan to bring any legal action, unlike a Royals fan who sued that team over a similar incident in 2009. The Phanatic, naturally, felt awful about what happened, and the team reached out to her on Tuesday to apologize.

Ince's opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) had 23 percent.

Thousands of jubilant supporters of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party, or HDP, also spilled into the streets of the predominantly Kurdish southeastern city of Diyarbakir after unofficial results from Anadolu showed the party coming in third with 11.5 percent of the legislative vote - surpassing the 10 percent threshold needed to enter parliament.

By contrast, Aksener and the new Iyi (Good) Party which she founded after splitting off from the MHP failed to make the expected impact. In a tweet, he said only 37 per cent of ballot boxes had actually been counted, as opposed to the more than almost 90 per cent the state-run agency Anadolu was reporting. "The nation has entrusted me with the role of presidency and executive power", Erdogan said in his residence in Istanbul.

"The message is clear", he said.

Merkel underlined the traditionally friendly relations between Berlin and Ankara and also expressed support for stability and democracy in Turkey.

While Mr Erdogan met crowds of cheering supporters, the opposition has cried foul, claiming that state media and the election commission manipulated the results.

In his victory speech, Erdogan said he would work toward achieving his goal of making Turkey one of the world's top 10 economies by 2023, when the Turkish Republic marks its centenary.

"With the presidential system, Turkey is seriously raising the bar, rising above the level of contemporary civilisations".

The pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party candidate Selahattin Demirtas came third with 8.4 percent, a position all the more remarkable given he has been jailed on charges of links to Kurdish militants since November 2016.

A spokesman for Mr Erodgan's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Mahir Unal, was quoted by CNN as dismissing the allegations, warning party leaders of "harsh outcomes" to any provocations.
