Egypt keeper El Hadary becomes World Cup's oldest player

Saudi Arabia Uruguay World Cup 2018

Saudi Arabia shocked Egypt with a 2-1 win in both teams' final game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Monday.

But Egypt will look to win its first-ever World Cup match, while the Saudis will try to avoid finishing last in Group play for the fourth time in four World Cup trips.

El-Hadary even got a highlight to go with his record-breaking performance, when he saved a penalty, an impressive feat for a goalkeeper of any age, in the first half of the match for Egypt.

The 45-year-old goalkeeper flew to his right to make a spectacular stop in the 39th minute from Fahad Al-Muwallad's spot-kick, awarded for handball, at the Volgograd Arena.

Mohamed Salah scored first for Hector Cuper's men before Salman El-Faraj equalised for Saudi Arabia from the spot and Salem El-Dawsari squander Egypt's hopes in gaining at least one point with a victor at the death.

He surpasses the record of Colombia keeper Faryd Mondragon, who was 43 years and 3 days old in his final appearance at the 2014 World Cup.

Luis Suarez scores victor as Uruguay and Russian Federation advance
Pizzi denied reports that Saudi officials had vetoed four players from the starting lineup on Wednesday. "That's what I know". He takes on the pressure and he lives with pressure all the time and that's a very distinctive feature of Luis.

Egypt finished bottom of Group A and failed to pick up a point, losing against Uruguay, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia's Salem Al-Dawsari scores his team's second goal against Egypt during their World Cup match on June 25, 2018.

Salah had been the subject of speculation he would quit the World Cup early over apparent unhappiness in the Egypt camp, but made light of the claims by racing onto a long ball in the 22nd minute and lobbing past Saudi goalkeeper Yasser Al-Mosailem for his second goal at Russian Federation 2018.

While Saudi Arabia finish in third place in the group, Egypt end the tournament without a point and have not registered a victory at this competition in seven attempts.

The Egyptian FA confirmed Salah's inclusion in the line-up minutes after a tweet was published with a list omitting the star striker's name.

Saudi Arabia had offered nothing in the way of attacking threat, but were given a chance of an unlikely leveller five minutes before the interval when Fathy was adjudged to have deliberately handled Yasir Al Shahrani's cross inside the area.
