Woman gets black eye from flying hot dog launched at baseball game

Phillies Fan Hurt After Being Shot in Face by Phillie Phanatic's Hot Dog Cannon

On Monday night, McVay was at the Phillies-Cardinals game at Citizens Bank Park.

McVay was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a small hematoma in her eye, along with soreness and bruises.

A Philadelphia Phillies fan says a hot dog launched by the baseball team's mascot hit her in the face and left her with a black eye. She's okay, but her face is pretty messed up. "And hard", McVay tells WPVI.

She does not plan to bring any legal action, unlike a Royals fan who sued that team over a similar incident in 2009.

Such was the case in the "City of Brotherly Love" Wednesday night, when the Phillies iconic mascot - the Phillie Fanatic - fired a hot dog launcher, directly at a fan's face. However, she does have a message for fellow fans in the stands. Except McVay told ABC 6 that she couldn't catch the hot dog or knock it out of the air because of a shoulder injury that she is having surgery on next week.

"Just to be aware, because you never know".

To her credit, McVay understands the ridiculous nature of her injury and is taking it all in stride. "If it gives people a good laugh and if that makes somebody chuckle, then that's fine".

The Phanatic, naturally, felt awful about what happened, and the team reached out to her on Tuesday to apologize.

Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (66) jokes around with the Phillie Phanatic before the start of the game at Citizens Bank Park.

They've offered McVay tickets to another game when she feels better and wants to return.
