Ex-Trump Campaign Manager Jailed After New Mueller Indictment

Former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort is going to jail

Last week, prosecutors asked the judge to tighten the restrictions on Manafort or send him to jail as a result of his alleged efforts to shape the accounts of two men who advised on the Ukraine-focused public relations campaign - Alan Friedman and Eckart Sager.

The order to incarcerate Manafort capped a months-long fight over the terms of his bail.

Jackson had previously rebuffed Manafort's repeated requests to end his home confinement in exchange for pledging $10 million in real estate as collateral. He helped Gerald Ford secure the 1976 nomination and later worked for Ronald Reagan. "Didn't know Manafort was the head of the Mob", Trump wrote.

There had already been pressure on Paul Manafort to flip on Trump, especially after Manafort's former business partner, Rick Gates, began cooperating with prosecutors earlier this year. "I feel badly for some people, because they've gone back 12 years to find things about somebody, and I don't think it's right".

Trump has the power to pardon his former aide of any federal crimes preemptively, as then-President Gerald Ford did for his predecessor Richard Nixon in 1974.

Manafort has maintained his innocence throughout the pretrial process and pleaded not guilty to the latest charges.

The case against him includes failing to register in the U.S.as a lobbyist for a foreign government.

Manafort's attorneys have accused prosecutors of conjuring a "sinister plot" out of "innocuous" contacts.

Manafort was arraigned Friday on the obstruction counts and is set for trial in Washington in September over the allegations of secret lobbying. He has pleaded not guilty to almost two dozen charges related to tax and bank fraud, money laundering, making false statements, and failure to register as a foreign agent.

After AT&T: Comcast Offers $65 Billion for Fox Assets
The company said the structure of its bid is "at least as favorable to [21st Century Fox] shareholders as the Disney offer". Now that the ruling has been made, we may soon see the fallout: sources say Comcast is preparing to make a move on Fox.

Donald Trump's former campaign chief was sent to jail on Friday (Jun 15) pending trial on a series of federal charges, as the U.S. president ramped up efforts to discredit the wider probe into possible collusion between his campaign team and Moscow.

"There was no collusion, there was no obstruction, and if you read the report. what you'll really see is bias against me", Trump said.

Court marshals held Manafort in the bowels of the courthouse for several hours following the hearing as they considered how to keep him protected from other inmates behind bars.

Third, Manafort sits in jail because he suggested untrue testimony to witnesses.

The judge said Manafort had not committed physical violence but rather had harmed the community.

Defense attorneys said revocation of bail would be very harsh.

President Donald Trump is weighing in on a judge's decision to jail his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort while he awaits trial.

The response added that it was not a crime for Mr Manafort "to communicate his view to others, especially when he is not aware of who the Special Counsel may call as witnesses". He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was among the first to be indicted by Mueller, who is heading up the main investigation into alleged Russian election meddling.

He is accused of concealing millions of dollars in income while representing pro-Russian political interests in Ukraine, and of not properly reporting this money to the IRS.
