Trump Withdraws Endorsement Of G-7 Communique Over Trudeau Statements

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro on Tuesday apologized for making inappropriate comments attacking Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"I own that, that was my mistake, those were my words", he said.

He asserted, with no evidence, that Trudeau only dared to say Canada wouldn't be pushed around because he didn't think Trump, who was on board Air Force 1 en route to Singapore, would see him.

Mr Kudlow accused the Canadian PM of betraying Mr Trump with "polarising" statements on trade policy that risked making the U.S. leader look weak ahead of a historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

"And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference".

"PM Justin Trudeau acted so meek and mild", he tweeted.

On Saturday, in response to USA sanctions on Canadian steel and aluminum imports, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canadians "will not be pushed around" and the imports were "kind of insulting".

Larry Kudlow, Trump's top economic adviser, took things further Sunday morning, saying on CNN's "State of the Union" that Trudeau's comments amounted to a "betrayal".

Within minutes of the official release of the document, Trump attacked Trudeau online over what he described as the prime minister's "false statements" during the closing news conference - and the president announced the United States would no longer endorse the communique.

Bitcoin crashed after another crypto exchange got hacked
The markets are down this morning in the wake of an alleged $40 Million hack of South Korean cryptocurrency exchange, Coinrail.

Earlier on Tuesday at the Washington conference, White House Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Kevin Hassett said the U.S. and Canada need to "take a deep breath".

A Trudeau spokesman, Cameron Ahmad, said Saturday night that Trudeau "said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public and in private conversations" with Trump. "It was very friendly", Mr Trump said.

Navarro, who has frustrated some members of the Trump administration by encouraging the president's protectionist instincts, was also rebuked by Republicans for his coarse language.

"We finished the meeting, really everybody was happy, and I agreed to sign something", Mr Trump said.

Mr Trudeau, in Quebec City for bilateral meetings with non-G7 leaders after the summit, did not respond to reporters' questions as he arrived, but his office pointed to Ms Freeland as the minister responsible for Canada-US relations.

The US has slapped a 25% tariff on imports of steel and 10% on aluminium from countries including the United Kingdom and the rest of the European Union. This prompted Trudeau to announce retaliatory measures on USA goods.

Canada's approach has been to hope for the best outcome but to always be prepared for the worst, and "to have a plan B, C, D, E and F and maybe to the end of the alphabet", Freeland said.

Trump was flying to Singapore for his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the time. Let us know what you think by voting in the poll above and sharing your thoughts in the comment section below.
