India strikes river, rice deals with China as relations thaw

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani arrived in the coastal Chinese city of Qingdao Friday for a security summit where analysts say Beijing and Moscow will likely seek ways to salvage the nuclear deal ditched by Donald Trump.

The summit comes after US President Trump controversially pulled Washington out of a 2015 worldwide pact with Iran that placed limits on its nuclear programme in return for easing economic sanctions.

Qingdao: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up for a series of meetings at Qingdao, it's worth taking a looking at why the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a unique gathering of countries, and what the special significance of this grouping is.

Russia, Iran and other allies confronting rising tensions with the United States over trade and Washington's withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal will be in attendance. Iran is an observer member.

The Chinese President welcomed Pakistan's representation in the Organization as a member.

Discussions in the summit will take place on diverse issues ranging from combating terrorism, separatism and extremism to promoting cooperation in connectivity, commerce, customs, law, health and agriculture, protecting the environment and mitigating disaster risk and fostering people-to-people relations.

The 2015 nuclear deal lifted that barrier.

The compounds discovered on Mars could have been produced by living things, or they could have been food for those living things. On 6 August 2012, the Sample Analysis at Mars ( SAM) instrument suite (1) arrived on Mars onboard the Curiosity rover.

The SCO meeting is concerned with both security and economic cooperation, so terrorism and North Korea's nuclear program will probably be topics on the agenda.

The SCO leaders are also expected to review the situation in the Korean peninsula, Afghanistan and Syria.

"On 9th and 10th June, I will be in Qingdao, China to take part in the annual SCO Summit".

The declaration will hold details of the significant mechanism for resisting the global terror activities.

India signaled in advance of the meeting that it will not compromise its sovereignty by reconsidering its opposition to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, an infrastructure project that would pass through land in Kashmir occupied by Pakistan but claimed by India.

Regional security issues will also feature, because terrorism is the most severe security challenge facing the SCO, according to Liao Jinrong, head of the Chinese ministry of public security's global cooperation department. China is gambling its diplomatic credibility on the chance it can facilitate better relations between India and Pakistan at the SCO summit.

India and China on Saturday agreed on measures to build on the consensus achieved by their leaders during recent talks in Wuhan, including the next informal summit to be held in India in 2019 and steps to maintain peace along the disputed border.
