Broward victim of alligator attack is identified

Woman is dragged into a Florida lake by an alligator while out walking her dogs

Florida officials on Saturday said search teams found the body of a missing woman who was previously presumed dead and believed to have been attacked by an alligator.

She is reported to have been married with a son in his 20s who lives in NY.

- Police in Davie, Florida say they are searching for a woman who may have been attacked by an alligator. The witness called police when he couldn't find the woman, Gallinal said.

Trappers have spotted an alligator in the pond that is about 12 feet long and were watching it, Gallinal said.

Engle told the newspaper how the woman's canine companions "won't leave the pond".

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials confirmed that Matsuki's arm was found inside a large alligator that was pulled from the lake where she disappeared.

"She was able to pry the alligator's mouth open and remove her leg", a spokeswoman for the commission said at the time.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission authorities trapped an alligator late Friday night.

The Sun-Sentinel identified Matsuki after speaking to relatives who had appeared at the park after her disappearance.

The dogs have been turned over to animal control.

"The gator has been taken into FWC and so has the evidence", said FWC Officer Ronald Washington. Feeding wild alligators is illegal because they could lose their fear of humans.

Fatal attacks on humans remain rare, however.

Matsuki was walking her dogs on the path around one of the two lakes inside the property just west of Florida's Turnpike, when she was grabbed by a gator Friday morning.

Alligators are found in all 67 of Florida's counties, according to the FWC.

Between 1948 and previous year, there were 401 people bitten by alligators, including 24 fatalities, the commission has said.

Residents in the area said that alligators were known to be in the water, and they wouldn't let their dogs walk without a leash because of this.

In 2016, a 2-year-old boy, Lane Graves, was snatched by a gator as he played at a Disney World resort.
