Almost 200 missing after new round of eruptions in Guatemala

Women mourn as the coffins of seven people who died following the eruption of the Fuego volcano are carried along the streets of Alotenango

At least 192 people are missing and 75 are dead as a result of the explosion of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala on Sunday, officials say.

Guatemalan authorities warned that the Fuego volcano was showing signs of greater activity on Tuesday night as the death toll from a devastating eruption at the weekend climbed to 75 and almost 200 people remained missing.

Conred spokesman David de Leon said the volcano first erupted around midday Sunday, billowing smoke and ash miles into the sky.

President Jimmy Morales has been criticised on social media for passively waiting to react to offers of worldwide aid.

There are fears many more could be buried beneath volcanic ash and debris.

A rescue worker pauses amid the attempt to save people hurt or displaced in the eruption.

The official death toll has reached 99, but more than 100 are still missing.

Firefighters search an area affected by the eruption of the Volcan de Fuego to look for bodies and survivors in the community of San Miguel Los Lotes in Escuintla, Guatemala, June 4, 2018.

Explosions boomed from the 3,763-metre volcano Wednesday, unleashing a new flow of unsafe volcanic material and forcing the rescuers to suspend the search for victims, Xinhua news agency reported.

Real Madrid's stance on Cristiano Ronaldo sale hangs on one major detail
According to another report , Ronaldo became more unhappy after his agent Jorge Mendes met with the club on Wednesday. The Portugal global still has three years remaining on his contract with Madrid.

The volcano had lost a lot of energy, Sanchez said, but "weaker explosions can release flows of hot gases that can go down ... and cause victims". These flows - a combination of ash, rock and volcanic gases - travel so fast during an eruption that it's impossible for anything to outrun them.

Volcanic ash blankets homes and trees near the Volcan de Fuego, or Volcano of Fire, where rescue workers gather in the El Rodeo hamlet of Escuintla, Guatemala.

In the community of Magnolia, which was under the new evacuation order, residents fled carrying bundles, bags of clothing and even small dogs in their arms.

"In a matter of three or four minutes the village disappeared", Castillo said, smothered in what he described as a "sea" of muck that came crashing into homes, inundating people, pets and wildlife. My children say they would rather be in the streets.

The institute said today that 28 of those recovered bodies have been identified.

Six children will be treated for severe burns at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas, the hospital said in a statement.

Authorities have not offered any estimate of how many people might still be missing.

Garcia stated that 17 of the victims have been identified.

"The toll was 25 dead as of 9 p.m.", Cabanas said, adding that around 300 people were injured while the government had opened over 3,000 shelters for those forced to leave their homes.
