WH Calls Kim Jong-Un 'Supreme Leader' On Peace Summit Challenge Coin

US President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un will meet next month to negotiate a deal that could avert nuclear war. "The United States will look at what North Korea has said independently, and continue to coordinate closely with our allies". The country's economic leverage over the North - China supplied 85 percent of North Korea's $3.47 billion in imports in 2015 - means it will be critical to any economic inducements offered as part of the deal.

The Singapore meeting would be the first summit between a sitting U.S. president and the leader of North Korea, if it happens at all.

The recent pangs of anxiety will come to a head on Tuesday when Trump meets in the Oval Office with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who some U.S. officials believe oversold North Korea's willingness to negotiate away its nuclear program.

As North Korea's largest trading partner, China's enforcement of United Nations sanctions helped bring Kim to the negotiating table while also shielding his regime from Trump's warnings of "fire and fury".

Donald Glover on Lando's sexuality in Solo: A Star Wars Story
The movie stretches out too long, and could have dropped a few subplots and action sequences that feel tacked on at the end. Lucas and Howard are no strangers to each other, having worked together on Lucas' pre-Star Wars film, American Grafitti .

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― South Korean government sees the Washington-Pyongyang summit will be held nearly for sure despite North Korea's recent threat to reconsider it in protest of some US officials' comments on denuclearization models and refusal of talks with Seoul. That is typical North Korean brinkmanship. With a shallow bench of foreign-policy experts on his team (there is now no USA ambassador to South Korea, after Victor Cha's nomination was scuttled earlier this year), much of the planning has fallen to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo-the former C.I.A. director-and to national security adviser John Bolton, who has repeatedly advocated for regime change in Pyongyang. However, North Korea has not accepted the list of journalists wishing to cover the dismantlement that the Ministry of Unification of South Korea recently sent to Pyongyang. Although there are rumors that intelligence officials may have stayed behind in Pyongyang to continue working out a modus operandi, the more likely scenario is that Secretary of State Pompeo will have to make yet another visit to Pyongyang for follow-on talks created to sketch out the framework for the Trump-Kim summit and the implementation process that would follow. The front side shows busts of "President Donald J. Trump" and "Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un" in front of their respective national flags and the words "peace talks". The list was resubmitted on Monday, but was swiftly rejected by North Korea once again.

After mulling the rhetoric for the past week, White House officials now believe Kim was attempting to test Trump's willingness to make concessions ahead of the summit, according to a USA official. It's unclear what will happen to them now that the White House National Security Council has eliminated the role of cyber coordinator under national security adviser John Bolton. However, since the summit was announced, Alperovitch has told CNN he expects that they would not launch an open destructive attack as they're trying to get the best possible outcome from the talks.

If the talks between Trump and Kim go badly, the possibility certainly remains that the regime would respond to protect itself in other ways.
