70 officers escort Ind. boy to school after dad's death

5-year-old son of fallen Terre Haute officer shares message for his dad

Dakota's dad, Rob Pitts, was IN police officer for the Terre Haute and Sullivan police departments.

The 16-year police vet was fatally shot by a 21-year-old suspect while responding to a call last week.

The officer was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital where he died. They wanted Dakota to know they will always have his back.

Dakota asked his mom if he could have an escort for his first day back to school.

Some 70 police officers showed up, standing in support as he walked in - wearing a yellow backpack and his dad's police badge around the neck.

In Afghanistan attacked the roadblocks
However, another official said that "the Taliban captured several security checkpoints inside and around the city". The fighters launched the attacks from four directions on the city, which has over 50,000 residents.

When he arrived at Sullivan Elementary, there were 70 IN police waiting outside to give Dakota his very own police escort to school.

Dakota was given his own badge and a SWAT t-shirt when he arrived at the school in Sullivan, Ind.

Rob, a 16-year veteran of the force, left behind a wife and his 5-year-old son, Dakota. What a lovely gesture for him on what we're sure was a daunting day. Wolfe was armed with a handgun and fired at the officers, striking Pitts. "Blood doesn't always make family, and I think the blue family just went above and beyond", said Kelli Jones, Officer Pitts' sister.

Wolfe was also killed in the gunfire exchange. Thank you for your continued prayers, ' Terre Haute police spokesman Ryan Adamson said Saturday.
