At least nine dead in Indonesia attacks

Television images showed debris scattered around the entrance of one church and police cordoning off areas as crowds gathered

The deadly blasts took place in Santa Maria church in Ngagel Madya area, Gereja Kristen Indonesia church on Diponegoro street and Pantekosta church on Arjuno street, Xinhua reported.

Three separate locations were hit by the bombings around 7:30 am (0030 GMT).

There have not yet been any claims of responsibility.

According to The Straits Times, the police chief of the province of East Java General Arifin Mahfoud told reporters that according to preliminary investigations, the attacks were made by suicide bombers who used to attack motorcycles or cars. It was not clear if any other perpetrators were among those killed or injured.

Indonesia is home to significant numbers of Christians, Hindus and Buddhists but there are concerns over rising intolerance. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility.

Google will remind the user to stop watching videos on YouTube

The latest attacks in predominantly Muslim Indonesia came days after police ended a riot and hostage-taking at a detention centre near Jakarta that left five dead and five injured.

Indonesian police shot and wounded a man who attacked a church congregation in Sleman town with a sword during Sunday Mass in February.

A sustained crackdown weakened the most risky networks but the emergence of IS has proved a potent new rallying cry for radicals.

The most serious incident was in January 2016 when four suicide bombers and gunmen attacked a shopping area in central Jakarta.

Dozens of others were injured in the attacks, which occurred within minutes of each other. The suicide bomber also died.
