Militant killed in Srinagar gunfight

Encounter ensues during CASO in Srinagar

Three militants and a civilian were killed on Saturday during a gunfight and subsequent clashes in Srinagar, police said.

Police said that on the basis of credible leads, the police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Chattabal area in Srinagar. "The fire was retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which 3 militants were killed whose identifications are being ascertained", police said in a statement. They added the police was investigating the case and that they suspected militants to have killed the two people.

Three security personnel sustained injuries in the encounter, which lasted about 7 hours.

Many people including three photojournalists have sustained injuries during the use of brute force on protesters by the Indian troops and police personnel.

"At Safa Kadal area of Srinagar a few miles away from the encounter site two police vehicles tried to stop the group of youth which resulted in clashes between youth and police as such one youth identified Adil Ahmad Yadoo came under a police vehicle (Police Bunker) and died on spot".

S.P. Vaid, police director-general, told reporters that the three militants were killed in a "clean" operation.

He was rushed to SMHS hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Mobile Internet services have been suspended in Srinagar in wake of the encounter, another official said.

A video recording has gone viral in Jammu and Kashmir showing a stone pelter being run over by a forces' vehicle leading to his instant death.

"Is there no sense of humanity left in India?"Mirwaiz said in another tweet". On the other hand Police called the incident a "road accident" and said they were investigating the incident. Their bodies were found by the locals near a mosque at Raheem Dar Mohalla, Shahgund, Hajin. Their bodies, riddled with bullets, were recovered early Saturday.
