Armenian Opposition Leader Wants to Become PM

Embattled Armenian prime minister resigns

But acting prime minister Karen Karapetyan, an ally of the ousted Sarksyan, said it was important to stay united amid the political tumult.

It was not immediately clear whether that signalled specific support for Pashinyan's candidacy or not.

Residents of all countries around the world should take note of Armenia's demonstration of the power of people.

"If people put this responsibility on me, I'm ready to become the prime minister", Pashinyan, wearing his trademark black baseball cap and military-style T-shirt, told reporters.

The Kremlin was speaking a day after Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sarksyan resigned after nearly two weeks of mass street protests that plunged the ex-Soviet republic into political crisis.

This year's march national commemoration march in Armenia's capital was different: The crowds were triumphantly led by an opposition leader who a day earlier had managed to push Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan out of office.

Protest rallies started in Armenia on April 13. Pashinyan was set free in the afternoon shortly after Karapetyan visited him in custody. In 2008, following reports of widespread electoral fraud, sit-in protests formed in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Recognizing that many Armenians felt drawn to Europe, as well as his country's increasing trade ties with the European Union, in 2017 Sargsyan negotiated a substitute deal with Brussels to replace the Association Agreement he abandoned four years earlier. For years, he had promised not to run for either president or prime minister after his second term. His reelection in 2013 was also denounced as fraudulent by Armenia's leading opposition groups.

Willie Snead Will Play for Ravens After Saints Decline to Match Contract
Snead had career-lows in every category in 2017, catching just 8-of-16 targets for 80 yards across 7 starts and 11 games played. On the final day of restricted free agency, the Ravens signed Snead to an offer for $10.4 million total over the two years.

Clutching flowers and wrapped in the tricolor Armenian flag, people of all ages took to the streets to remember the 1915 killing of 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks, in what many historians consider the first genocide of the 20th century.

"We have not seen a change of a political elite yet", said Ruben Megrabyan of the Armenian Center for Global Studies.

A spokesman for Azerbaijan's foreign ministry said he hoped that new Armenian authorities would adopt a "constructive" approach over the breakaway region of Nagorny Karabakh.

Karen Karapetyan, the most recent Armenian Prime Minister other than Sargsyan, whose improper two-week tenure shouldn't be counted as a Prime Minister, has stepped in as the acting Prime Minister.

In late 2015, Sargsyan's ruling Republican Party initiated constitutional reform, which was passed through another fraudulent referendum.

The parliamentary system came into force last week with the appointment of a new prime minister - and despite all his pledges not to run, Sargsyan was announced as the ruling party's sole candidate for the post.

Pashinyan said they will discuss, among other things, the holding of fresh parliamentary elections in the "shortest possible logical period of time". "I am fulfilling your demand", Sargsyan wrote to his country's citizens in a statement of resignation on his official website.
