Alfie Evans' parents to appeal against Italy travel ban ruling

Alfie Evans: Parents to appeal against ruling that he cannot go to Italy for treatment

Prof Dr Nikolaus Haas, the head of paediatric cardiology at Munich's university hospital, who gave evidence on behalf of Alfie's parents, argues that he should be allowed to travel to receive care. At least for now.

But the reason why is startling.

Alfie Evans cuddles his mother Kate James (left) at Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, England.

Now, the best the court could offer was to suggest to Alder Hey that they consider letting his parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, take their son home.

The judge said the best they could hope for was to "explore" the options of removing the boy from intensive care either to a ward, a hospice or his home.

A doctor, who can not be named for legal reasons, said for Alfie to be allowed home would require a "sea change" in attitude from the child's family.

Mr Justice Hayden said flying Alfie to a foreign hospital would be wrong and pointless. Apparently their attitude is too combative - because they are fighting for their son's life and doing everything possible to save him.

Mr. Justice Hayden has agreed to allow the child to go home with his parents as he continues to fight and asked for medical experts in Italy to exam him.

If Tom and Kate Evans are allowed to take Alfie home the question then becomes whether or not they would have the legal right to take Alfie to Rome Italy where a hospital as waiting to provide him appropriate Medical Care and treatment as well as potential experimental treatment. Italy granted the boy Italian citizenship, and the Pope has intervened in the case. But the judge appears to have prohibited that, which could produce an worldwide legal drama as Italian officials are demanding that their citizen be allowed to leave the country.

A spokeswoman for the Christian Legal Centre, which is assisting Tom Evans and Kate James, said they meant to ask the judge to consider allowing medical experts in Italy to examine Alfie.

'The judges in Your Majesty's Court have given orders: to kill Alfie on an appointed hour at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool by withdrawing his life support.

Doctors have turned off Alfie's life support in the last few days and according to his parents, he was breathing unassisted for 24 hours.

"The airplane, I repeat, is ready to take off at Ciampino, the doctors and the equipment are there, the team is ready".

Evans' supporters-who include bishops, members of parliament, and other prominent figures-have dubbed themselves "Alfie's Army" to spread awareness and to provide encouragement for the family.

Diamond proceeded, giving a witness statement from Tom in which he claimed that doctors were "gobsmacked" that Alfie didn't die and began to breathe on his own after being extubated.

Ruling after ruling ignored Alfie's parents' basic right to care for their son and take him elsewhere for treatment.

A hospital clinician reportedly told the court they had a "genuine fear" that angry protesters in support of Evans would make transporting him home now impossible. They could only advise the Court and look on as the High Court made decisions for Alfie.

The 23-month-old confounded doctors' expectations when he continued to live after life support was withdrawn on Monday night.

Alfie Evans was born a healthy normal little boy in May 2016. "Alfie's still here and fighting", he said.
