Friday is also the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School mass shooting in Colorado where 12 students and a teacher were killed.

In March, students organized an event to honor the lives of the 17 people killed in the Parkland, Fla., school shooting on Valentine's Day. "Each school site will likely have different planned opportunities for voluntary student expression and participation depending on student interest on that campus".

Superintendent John Bowes set an email blast on Wednesday, noting "Students and adults in Davis and across the country continue to look for constructive ways to respond to and to process the recurring incidents of gun violence..." At Westport High, senior Briannah Lopes, 18, helped organize and is president of a new student group, Westport Safe and Sound, that focuses on school safety.

Ho-Shing said it's important to make sure minority voices are heard during the national push for gun reform that has been led by many of her classmates.

In a message to student participants, organizers urged students not to engage with any counter-protesters.

Shelby County School students plan to walk out Thursday, followed by similar demonstrations at other school districts Friday.

Cancellation Watch: Fear the Walking Dead Returns Strong for its Fourth Season
Until then, you can circle October 20 on your calendar as the projected return date for The Walking Dead season 9. They will upload the season finale to the website once it's aired on TV and it's free to stream.

Students from around the Valley are expected to take part in a national walkout to protest gun violence Friday.

"Sometimes it feels like our world is so divided, that we wanted this to be a time where we could all come together and say enough is enough-we shouldn't have to worry about our survival, we should be worrying about our school work", he says.

This latest national rally comes more than a month after tens of thousands of USA students from more than 3,000 schools participated in the #ENOUGH National School Walkout to demand that lawmakers seek tighter gun control regulations.

Pomp said Chapel Hill police officers have agreed to escort students to the rally on Franklin Street where speakers will demand that Congress and state lawmakers support universal background checks, raising the minimum age to buy a gun to 21 and bans on bump stocks and assault rifles among other stricter gun-control measures.

"I'm not anxious about an unexcused absence, detention or suspension", Pomp said. "I guess there's no way to control this, but just for people to know that whether it's the Parkland students or myself and my team, we're growing up while doing this".

Instead of walking out of class, Marion County students will constructively use a 30-minute time period to exchange ideas, discuss differing opinions, and offer hard-thought solutions on how our community should address school tragedies like the Parkland, Florida shooting in February.
