Minnesota prosecutors hold press conference regarding Prince's death

Charges in Prince's death could be announced Thursday

The announcement was made today at a press conference in Minnesota by Carver County attorney Mark Metz, with the decision coming almost two years after Prince was found dead on April 21, 2016, at age 57.

The investigation into how Prince obtained the highly addictive painkiller is now closed.

"In all likelihood, Prince had no idea that he was taking a counterfeit pill that could kill him", Metz said.

Metz says Prince never actually had a prescription for Vicodin, he obtained those counterfeit pills and took them thinking they were Vicodin.

Metz detailed a two-year investigation, saying there's no evidence any of the people surrounding Prince gave him counterfeit Vicodin or knew he had it.

He added that nothing in the evidence suggests that he knowingly ingested Fentanyl. Prince's autopsy showed that he had "exceedingly high" levels of fentanyl in his system at the time of death, which was determined to be a self-administered overdose, reported NBC News.

A search warrant in the case said Johnson asked a doctor to prescribe pain medication for Prince, and the doctor prescribed oxycodone in Johnson's name.

The settlement between the U.S. Attorney's Office and Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg, dated Monday, does not name Prince or make any references to the Prince investigation, but search warrants previously released say Schulenberg told authorities he prescribed oxycodone to Prince on April 14 and put it under the name of Prince's bodyguard and close friend, Kirk Johnson, "for Prince's privacy".

Report gives NC mixed grade for healthy air
Many people breathe unsafe air in their very homes as they use coal and wood as fuel. "Ozone can even shorten life itself". Ozone levels increased in most cities nationwide, in large part because of warmer temperatures.

Prince, real name Prince Rogers Nelson, battled opioid addiction for years leading up to his death.

Authorities could not determine who provided Prince with the deadly pills.

Law enforcement had been investigating Prince's death for the past two years.

On the return trip to the Twin Cities from the Atlanta show, Princes private plane made an emergency landing in Moline, Ill., after Prince passed out. Investigators do not believe Schulenberg was the one who supplied the fentanyl that caused Prince's death. Johnson then called Schulenberg on April 14, asking the doctor to prescribe a pain medication for Prince's hip. Prince was revived by first responders using the drug Naloxone, a fast-acting agent used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Prince did not have a prescription for fentanyl.

The U.S. attorneys office also agreed not to revoke or suspend Schulenbergs DEA registration unless he violated his agreement with the DEA. The doctor admitted no facts or liability in the settlement, which includes stricter monitoring of his prescribing practices.

A U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration investigation found Dr. Michael Shulenberg prescribed painkillers to an associate of Prince's knowing the painkillers would meant to be used by Prince.
