James Comey: 'Even in Private' Trump Won't Criticize Putin

James Comey

Former FBI director James Comey has unleashed on Donald Trump in his new book A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership in which he describes the United States president as "untethered to truth".

Comey is on the verge of his book tour for his memoir A Higher Loyalty, a title that is itself a dig at Trump (Comey alleges that Trump asked him in a private meeting to swear personal loyalty to the President-which Comey, who once prosecuted the mafia, says reminds him of mob bosses' expectations for their underlings).

Merrill blasted Comey for allegedly dancing around dozens of questions in Sunday's ABC interview by answering with "maybe", accusing him of "hubris" and again faulting him for the election of Trump - whom he called "the most self-involved, destructive leader the US has ever known". In his memoir, fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey compares President Trump to a Mafia boss - "untethered to the truth", and demanding unquestioning loyalty.

Comey's comments in an ABC News interview broadcast Sunday were nearly certain to escalate his war of words with the president.

President Donald Trump suggested earlier this week that Comey should be jailed and accused him of leaking classified information and lying to Congress.

Comey told ABC News that he would make the same decision again.

While many of Trump's critics believe that the proper remedy for his perceived transgressions is impeachment, Comey insisted that would just "let the American people off the hook". As LevinTV host Mark Levin has been saying for over a year, the entire investigation of President Donald Trump isn't about collusion.

Mr Trump told him that he had not stayed overnight in the Moscow hotel and that the claims related to the prostitutes were not true, Mr Comey said. There is no indication he is under investigation for doing so.

"It shows me he either doesn't know or doesn't care what the rule of law looks like", Comey said.

Comey said his reaction to the news was disbelief.

The Post-ABC poll finds 49 percent saying Trump has done "too little" to criticize Russian Federation for allegedly violating global law, 38 percent saying he's handled the issue "about right" and 4 percent thinking that Trump has criticized Russian Federation "too much". "First of all, he's just making stuff up", Comey said of the tweets directed at him, calling for him to be jailed. The dossier's allegations are primarily troubling because there's the possibility that Russian Federation has information or material on Trump that would enable them to blackmail the President.

Comey's disclosure shortly before the election that the FBI had reopened its investigation into her email use enraged Democrats. "He may conclude that there is nothing that touches President Trump or any of his senior people", he said.

Comey said in the interview broadcast Sunday night that Trump is "morally unfit" for office. After facing widespread backlash at the time, Trump apologized for comments he made on the recording - in which he bragged about sexually assaulting women and "grabbing them by the p-y" - but went on to repeatedly dismiss them as "locker room talk".

Comey's book, "A Higher Loyalty", drives the publicity.

Comey was so confused by this he even went on YouTube months later, to try and track down video evidence of Trump chuckling - and could only find one.
