US, allies attacking Syria to stop chemical weapon

May ready to bypass Parliament & approve UK military intervention in Syria – BBC

The decision to strike, after days of deliberations, marked Trump's second order to attack Syria; he authorized a barrage of Tomahawk cruise missiles to hit a single Syrian airfield in April previous year in retaliation for al-Assad's use of sarin gas against civilians.

Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, director of the joint staff, said in a briefing at the Pentagon Saturday morning that the joint forces targeted three locations with 105 weapons. "We've attacked the heart of the Syrians' chemical weapons program".

The U.S., United Kingdom and France launched missiles at a research and development center, a chemical weapons storage site and a chemical weapons bunker.

A total of 100 cruise and air-to-surface missiles were launched at targets in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry stated, noting that two U.S. warships carried out the attack from the Red Sea, as well as tactical aviation over the Mediterranean Sea and B-1B bombers from al-Tanf area.

This photo released by the Syrian official news agency SANA, shows anti-aircraft fire in the sky after US -led airstrikes targeting different parts of the Syrian capital Damascus in retaliation for the country's alleged use of chemical weapons early on Saturday.

Trump tweeted, "A perfectly executed strike last night". Could not have had a better result. In a televised statement, Trump said, "The combined American, British, and French response to these atrocities will integrate all instruments of our national power - military, economic, and diplomatic".

In his statement, President Trump also reprimanded Russian Federation and Iran for supporting Syria in using chemical weapons against its citizens. "This massacre was a significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons used by that very awful regime".

White also said the United States is "very confident" that the Assad regime was behind the chemical weapons attack on civilians.

Mark's Friday Evening Forecast
WIND ADVISORY for Saturday as winds could gust as high as 45 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour along lakefront. Likely the highest amounts for this wet and heavy snow at lower elevations will be over Judith Basin and Fergus counties.

"Such attacks will not deter our armed forces and allied forces from persisting to crush what is left of the armed terrorist groups", the military said.

As Saturday morning broke, hundreds of Syrian people came out to the streets in Damascus to defy, condemn a joint US, British and French attack earlier at dawn.

According to reports, a "large part" of the Syrian regime's chemical arsenal has been destroyed during the coordinated strikes by US, Uk and France on facilities that produced deadly weapons.

Precision missile strikes targeted three Syrian chemical weapons facilities: a scientific research center near Damascus, a chemical weapons storage facility west of Homs and a storage facility and command post near Homs. Russian Ambassador to US Anatoly Antonov in a statement said, "All responsibility for them rests with Washington, London and Paris". She also said that the response was "justified, legitimate, and proportionate".

Tayyip Erdogan, president of Syria's neighbour Turkey, said on Friday he had spoken by phone with Trump and Putin and told both that increasing tensions in the region was not right.

She said nearly a century of global acceptance about not using chemical weapons had been eroded in Douma and Salisbury.

"Russia convenes an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss aggressive actions of the USA and its allies", Putin said in a statement published on the Kremlin Web site.

"We had an early warning of the strike from the Russians. and all military bases were evacuated a few days ago", the official said.
