Rain to Turn Into Snow Friday, Winter Storm Warning Issued

A potent spring storm is raking the Plains and Midwest.

Power outages, hazardous travel conditions, and all forms of precipitation including rain, freezing rain, ice pellets, freezing drizzle, and snow are hitting southern Ontario today as the slow-moving system Winter Storm Xanto passes through the area.

Environment Canada is out with a Winter Storm Warning for areas of Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood, Midland, Muskoka, Parry Sound, and parts of Dufferin County.

Snow will exit KAKEland Saturday morning with a trace to 2 inches of accumulation possible along and North of I-70.

Travelers scheduled to fly to or from impacted destinations between April 13-15 are eligible to have their change fees waived and will be able to book a new flight through April 18.

In fact, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for northern and western Siouxland from Friday evening into Saturday evening.

Drivers in these areas are being told that they face hard conditions on the roads. There may be a lull or break in the precipitation later Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon before heavy precipitation returns Saturday night and continues into Sunday night. Additionally, once roads reach the freezing temperature standing water may flash freeze, quickly changing roads from decent condition to very slick.

The southern third of Lower Michigan should miss most of the freezing rain.
