South Africa court adjourns Zuma corruption case

Zuma mourns Winnie

South Africa's former President Jacob Zuma has been charged with corruption over an arms deal going back to the 1990s.

Judge Themba Sishi announced the adjournment that was proposed by the state and supported by the defense Friday at the High Court in Durban.

Zuma is accused of taking bribes from French arms maker Thales over a contract worth several billion dollars during his time as a provincial economy minister and then deputy ANC president.

The corruption allegations were previously filed against Zuma but were dropped prior to his presidential run in 2009.

The case was adjourned on Friday to allow Mr Zuma's legal team time to prepare the documents needed for the court to decide whether a review of the decision to re-charge the former president could go ahead.

Zuma said he made a decision to resign in order to prevent bloodshed as no life should be lost because of him.

Zuma, who was ousted as Head of State, attended a brief preliminary hearing at the high court in Durban.

The opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) laid corruption charges against the Guptas and Zuma's son Duduzane.

Spotify Stock Struggles On Day 2, Live Nation Rises
Investors will most likely weigh the company's potential for growth, considering its 12-year streak of failing to turn a profit. It's not really been a good time for technology stocks, but on the day of Spotify's debut the Nasdaq closed up 1 .06%.

The company is facing two charges.

In March 2016 the South African Supreme Court of Appeal upheld a judgement that the failure by Zuma's government to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was illegal.

JACOB ZUMA, the former president of South Africa, has been charged with corruption.

When he left court, he sang an apartheid-era song and told a cheering crowd that he was innocent of the charges, which resurfaced after he was forced from office earlier this year. But he later mocked and ridiculed the corruption case, telling his supporters that he was being persecuted for his advocacy of radical economic policies and land reform.

Many supporters flocked to the site, dressed in the ANC colours of green, gold and black. As was the case the previous evening, Zuma supporters had chosen to defy the directive from ANC leadership forbidding the wearing of party regalia to express solidarity with the former president.

Since his election nine years ago, his opponents have fought a lengthy legal battle to have the charges reinstated. "This is a just a political conspiracy", he said in Zulu. At a recent church appearance, Zuma said: "People are free, but I am not".
