Buckingham Palace has announced that Prince Philip has been admitted to hospital

The Duke of Edinburgh is in hospital

"The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night, as a precautionary measure, for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition", a Buckingham Palace spokesman said at the time.

Buckingham Palace says Queen Elizabeth's husband has been admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London Tuesday afternoon ahead of a previously scheduled hip surgery.

He retired from 65 years of public service in August, more than five years after the Palace originally said he would gradually "wind down" his workload.

Following his retirement from the public previous year, Prince Philip has been unable to attend several events due to his ailing health.

The duke's hip problem forced him to miss the annual Maundy Service with the Queen last week which this year was staged at Windsor Castle's St George's Chapel. The Duke of Edinburgh has reportedly been ailing for the past several days.

Despite officially retiring in 2017, Philip appeared publicly with Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family last December for Christmas morning church services and even participated in the family's yearly walk in Sandringham.

Dutch attorney in Mueller investigation gets 30 days in prison
Trump has also denied any collusion between himself and the Kremlin and has called Mueller's investigation a "witch hunt". He faces tax and fraud charges in the second indictment , and conspiracy and money laundering in the first .

Prince Philip won't be sleeping in his palace bed tonight.

He and Elizabeth celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in November.

The couple had four children together, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.

Aged just 18 months, he and his family were evacuated in a British Royal Navy ship from politically unstable Greece, with the toddler reputedly carried in a cot made from an orange box.

"He is someone who doesn't take easily to compliments, but he has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years", the notoriously private royal revealed in her speech at the people's banquet.
