Sisi Re-elected As Egypt's President With 92% Votes

Egyptians Cast Votes in Country's Presidential Election

Egyptians wrapped up a third and final day of voting on Wednesday in a presidential election that is all but guaranteed to hand a second term to Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi.

His only challenger, Moussa Mostafa Moussa, a Sisi supporter, garnered 721,000 votes, the newspaper reported.

The voter turnout in the 2014 presidential polls, which Sisi won by almost 97 per cent of the votes against leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi, was about 47.5 per cent of some 53.8 million registered voters.

Sisi was first elected in 2014 with 97 per cent of the vote, but with a modest turnout of about 47 per cent.

Early indications from sources monitoring the vote, however, suggested turnout could be lower than in the 2014 election.

Al-Sisi's only opponent was a little-known politician who made no effort to challenge him.

Neil Walker is likely to start at first base in Thursday's Opening Day fixture against Toronto Blue Jays. We feel good about it. "He did say he's had some discomfort a little bit off and on", Cashman said.

Voters had trickled into polling stations as authorities encouraged them to show up in high numbers.

"The votes of Egyptian masses will certainly remain a witness that our nation's will is strongly prevailing", a statement on his Facebook page said.

Terror activities in Egypt have killed hundreds of security men and civilians since the military toppled Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year rule and his now outlawed Brotherhood group.

Other tactics have also been deployed, with some voters saying they were paid and given other incentives to cast their ballots.

Mahmoud el-Sherif, the spokesman of the election commission, said Wednesday at a press conference that the highest turnout was in Cairo, the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, and in northern Sinai, the epicenter of an insurgency by Islamic militants.

Some voters interviewed by Reuters over the first two days of polling said they had been offered money, boxes of food, and services to cast their ballots.

"I have only one wish and if it's accomplished, I will be very happy", said Ashraf Ahmed, a 50-year-old ceramic sculptor smoking a shisha in a cafe.
