GoPro's new entry-level Hero camera costs $199

New Go Pro Hero could save buyers money but not the company

In a last play to squeeze the remaining juice out of the enthusiast weekender market, GoPro has announced a $199 action camera that packs numerous features from its higher-end models into something much more affordable.

According to a new report from TechCrunch, the new camera, simply called the GoPro Hero, costs $200 United States dollars and will feature most of the best features of the Hero 5 and Hero 6, at half the cost. Photos, videos and controls can all be viewed on the two-inch touchscreen display and GoPro has even included its voice recognition technology, so you can turn the camera on and off and start recording by speaking commands. The company also offers a monthly subscription service for $4.99 per month that affords cloud backups, 20 percent off select accessories and damaged camera replacement. It features video stabilization and is waterproof up to 30 feet (10 meters). A new camera has been added to the GoPro lineup that's simply called the Hero.

The GoPro Hero is available to purchase right now, for £199.99. The unit will shoot at a max resolution of 1440p at 60 frames per second, will be able to take 10MP stills, shoot time lapses and also perform burst photography.

Staying unsettled and damp, with on and off light showers, Wednesday
EASTER SUNDAY: We're going to keep forecast highs in the 70s but a cold front may sag into the region during the day. Happy Wednesday Kentucky! Rain showers are moving across the area this morning along with mild temperatures.

The other major difference can be found under the hood as well. This will help you auto offload images and videos to your phone and makes it easier to share them instantly.

Memories captured on the GoPro HERO are transferred to the GoPro app on a smartphone or tablet, saving you the trouble of working with memory cards or having to plug the camera into a computer.

The question is whether it will be enough to revive the fortunes of a company that has endured a tough few years.
