Facebook to Streamline Privacy Settings in Wake of Cambridge Analytica Scandal

Lawmakers formally ask Zuckerberg to testify on user data

"It is and will remain Facebook's business model to collect data and make it accessible to people with the right profiles in exchange for money", he was cited as saying by Xinhua news agency.

Facebook, in response to criticism over the past 17 months, has repeatedly promised that it would crack down on advertisers who use those tools to show housing or employment ads to whites only.

The new privacy shortcuts menu is a little more involved. The Facebook data leak has also triggered an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission, which is now looking into the company's privacy practices.

The company has faced a global outcry after a whistleblower said that data from millions of users was improperly harvested by consultancy Cambridge Analytica to target United States and British voters in close-run elections.

In its blog post, Facebook claims many of these changes have been in the works for a while and that regulators, legislators and privacy experts were consulted during the process.

To comply with this, Facebook is adding a section called "access your information", a secure way for users to manage data they've shared with the company, including status updates, comments and things they have searched for.

Finally, Facebook will allow users to securely manage information and posts shared on the platform, whether its downloading this data to keep or deleting it from the site altogether.

Meanwhile, the Atlas Tanoak pickup - with its cargo system - is an ideal choice for driving across America's expansive landscapes. The headlights and front bumper, using round LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), were redesigned and extend into the side profile.

Facebook says it's trying to make the controls easier to find and to give users a simpler way to access and download the data it collects on them.

Some privacy advocates wondered whether the new system would make a difference.

While both parties have denied explicit wrongdoing, Facebook and Cambridge Analytica are facing whistleblower claims this data was used to support Donald Trump's 2016 presidential election campaign, with the latter firm also being said to have yielded influence over other democratic votes including the European Union referendum.

"We've heard that when accessing their information from our Download Your Information tool, some people are seeing their old videos that do not appear on their profile or Activity Log", a Facebook representative told CNET in a statement.

'In the coming weeks, we'll be proposing updates to Facebook's terms of service that include our commitments to people.

"Learning of the recent meddling in a free USA election further demonstrates another concern we have of how they handle users' data - more than 25 million of which are Playboy fans - making it clear to us that we must leave the platform", Cooper Hefner wrote on Twitter.

Other committees, including the Senate Commerce Committee, have said that they want Zuckerberg to testify as well, and at least one lawmaker, Sen.
