Air Force Airlifts Dapchi Girls Back To Maiduguri

Politics Boko Haram 'Returning To Dapchi With Leah Sharibu' - TheCable

Sharibu was said to have been held back because she refused to convert from Christianity to Islam.

The girls met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, March 23 following their release by Boko Haram terrorists.

Late last month, terrified pupils fled the Government Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State when heavily armed fighters in military fatigues and turbans stormed the town, shouting "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest").

Describing the release of the 107 youngsters - 105 schoolgirls and a younger boy and girl - as a "cheery and hearty" development, Buhari pledged to recover "every abducted citizen in Nigeria".

The kidnapping of at least 110 school girls in Dapchi last month had raised questions about the military's repeated claims that the Islamist militants are on the verge of defeat, after almost nine years of bitter fighting.

"We got the news that she was on her way", he said.

Religious leaders in Nigeria demand that Boko Haram release a schoolgirl who they've kept, despite releasing 104 others, for refusing to renounce Christ and become Muslim.

Russian shopping mall fire kills 64; no alarms reported
News agencies said more than 100 people had been evacuated from the mall, which contains cinemas, restaurants and shops. The tragedy has already launched a series of checks into compliance with fire safety regulations across the country.

Mohammed made his statement in an email to Reuters at the weekend outlining the background to the release of more than 100 schoolgirls freed last week by the group after being kidnapped on February 19 from the northeastern town of Dapchi.

This had created some confusion as the freed girls had reported that five of them had died during the abduction, with another one still with the terrorists.

"The remaining six Dapchi girls are yet to be accounted for and dialogue on these students is still on-going", he said.

"There is no news that they have seen my daughter", Leah's father Nata Sharibu told AFP over the phone.

Speaking at the gathering, the member representing Gujba, Gulani, Damaturu, Tarmuwa, Yunusari and Dapchi at the House of Representatives, Bukar Goni, informed the gathering that all the students were found to be in good health condition and thanked the President, the Yobe state governor and all Nigerians for their support throughout the period of their captivity.

"We are all waiting to receive them even as we pray God should bring them home safely".

While some of the Chibok girls have been freed in exchange for ransom and the release of top Boko Haram commanders, a total of 112 remain in captivity.
