New order bans transgender troops from military service

Trump issues a formal ban on transgender people serving in the military

He accused the Obama administration of allowing transgender military service without identifying a "sufficient basis" that doing so would not "hinder military effectiveness and lethality, disrupt unit cohesion, or tax military resources", and he directed Mattis to have the Pentagon adopt a new ban similar to the military's former policy by Friday.

Both parties need to do more on drug prices Senate approves.3 trillion spending bill, sending to Trump White House: Trump will delay steel tariffs for European Union, six countries MORE is moving ahead with his plan to ban most transgender people from serving in the military, with limited exceptions, following up on a proposal he called for last summer.

"The Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security. may exercise their authority to implement any appropriate policies concerning military service by transgender individuals".

"Donald Trump and Mike Pence are literally wreaking havoc on the lives of our military families", said Ashley Broadway-Mack, president of the American Military Partner Association.

Just last month, a transgender recruit signed a contract to join the US military for the first time since a federal court ruled that the military would have to accept openly transgender people.

The ban has since been battled over in court, with Mattis in February giving Trump a final recommendation.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in August announced it was suing President Trump over his transgender ban for the USA military.

Blow to EC on AAP ejection
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said his party will fight it out in the EC again as the 20 MLAs have enjoyed perks. The disqualification had come about as even the Election Commission had said that they were illegally holding to the post.

Trump's decision to keep the ban comes one month after a Washington Post report suggested that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis would urge Trump to allow transgender citizens to continue serving in the military. The ban follows Trump's erratic announcement in July 2017, when through a series of Tweets he stated his intention to ban transgender individuals from serving in any capacity in the USA military.

Senior staff attorney for the ACLU Joshua Block said, "What the White House has released tonight is transphobia masquerading as policy". The Department of Defense confirmed that the recruit had signed a contract for service in the military and would be attending basic training in the coming months.

Trump issued orders to ban transgender troops who require significant medical treatment to be exempt from the US military with the exception of select cases.

Without a new policy, the Pentagon would have reverted to its pre-2016 practice that effectively banned transgender troops from service on medical grounds.

On Friday, Pentagon officials said they would continue to comply with federal law. "The president's hateful ban is purpose-built to humiliate our courageous transgender members of the military who serve with honor and dignity". In a tweet, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi called the ban "hateful" and created to "humiliate our fearless transgender members of the military who serve with honor and dignity".

"Consistent with this new policy, we are asking the courts to lift all related preliminary injunctions in order to ensure the safety and security of the American people and the best fighting force in the world", the statement reads.
