IndiGo Cancels 47 Flights After DGCA Grounds 8 Planes

The move immediately grounded eight aircraft at IndiGo India’s largest carrier and three at GoAirlines

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation have demanded immediate grounding of all 11 Airbus A-320 New engine option (Neo) aircraft that are equipped with a faulty kind of Pratt & Whitney (PW) engines.

Flights to and from Delhi were among the worst hit, information available on Indigo's website on Tuesday showed. In a series of similar instances in recent months, A320neo aircraft across the world suffered identical engine failures and were forced to make emergency landings.

Citing safety of aircraft operations, the Director of the DGCA, in the March 12 order, said that A320Neos fitted with PW1100 engines beyond ESN 450 have been grounded with immediate effect. Both of the airlines have been asked to not use these same engines in their planes, even if they have them on spare.

DGCA said it would remain in touch with the stakeholders including the European Aviation Safety Agency.

China says no to United States trade war, but vows to defend interests
China's trade surplus with the United States grew 13 percent year on year to 1.87 trillion yuan last year, official data showed. Trump signed orders for stiff tariffs on steel and aluminum and indicated more actions are potentially on the way.

Pratt had proposed a fix that would see at least one engine featuring an older seal reinstated on planes while it worked on a more permanent solution.

On Monday, hundreds of passengers were stranded across the country as dozens of flights were cancelled by IndiGo and GoAir due to the grounding of the 11 A320 Neo planes of the two carriers.

Meanwhile, Vistara said the move by the aviation regulator has had no impact on its operations as its A320 Neos are fitted with a different engine. The DGCA statement added that at the moment there is no concrete proposal in place to address the issue.

India has grounded all Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY -1%) A320neo powered by the latest Pratt & Whitney (UTX -1.1%) engines after a series of in-flight shutdowns. It and GoAir said they'd complied with the DGCA directive. "We are working to mitigate the.situation by the end of the second quarter", said a statement from Pratt, a unit of United Technologies Corp.
