USA immigration agency removes "Nation of Immigrants" from mission statement

Advancing Justice will continue to closely monitor USCIS's policy changes and actions, and fight for the right of all Americans, including immigrant Americans, to sponsor close family members and to become USA citizens.

Mr. Cissna had also previously worked in government as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State, where he served in the immigrant visa section at the U.S. Consulate in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and then as chief of the nonimmigrant visa section at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Thursday that it is dropping the phrase "nation of immigrants" from the agency's mission statement, a move it says is a reflection of its devotion to American citizens but which advocates have denounced as an anti-immigrant gesture.

"In particular, referring to applicants and petitioners for immigration benefits, and the beneficiaries of such applications and petitions, as "customers" promotes an institutional culture that emphasizes the ultimate satisfaction of applicants and petitioners, rather than the correct adjudication of such applications and petitions according to the law", he continued.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Thursday officially changed its mission statement by striking out the words "nation of immigrants" from it.

Premier Notley doesn't believe BC legal challenge has merit
In response, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley announced she is rescinding a boycott on B.C. wine. Horgan and his cabinet knew that Alberta couldn't take the ongoing actions by the B.C.

"Employment-based petitioners who circumvent the worker protections outlined in the nation's immigration laws not only injure US workers (e.g., their wages and job opportunities), but also the foreign workers for whom they are petitioning", it said.

'USCIS employees take pride in helping prospective immigrants who desire to be part of our country, but they are also dedicated to ensuring we have an immigration system of which we can be proud.

The "petitioners" that Director Cissna refers to are actually American people and the "applicants" are future Americans (immigrants). Immigrants applying for visas, green cards, and citizenship - and the United States citizens and companies that have to sponsor some of those applications - are paying USCIS for the services they provide. These key priorities are reflected in the agency's new mission statement. "America is great because it is a nation of immigrants". They are as American as anyone else. "It will be up to everyday Americans to uphold this sacred value so that it may outlast the damages caused by the Trump Administration".

The no longer devoted to securing "America's promise as a nation of immigrants". But immigrant rights advocates have been anxious about the agency.

The Washington Post pointed out that Cissna himself is the son of immigrants. It also processes citizenship applications, which have surged since President Donald Trump won the election in 2016. It reflects the director's guiding principles for the agency.

By overhauling the mission statement, it's clear that the new leadership wants to be noticed.
