U.S. doing little to combat Russian Federation meddling in next elections

New charging documents against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort were filed Wednesday

In a separate appearance on the radio show, former FBI Assistant Director Ron Hosko said the indictment brought last week by Mueller against 13 Russians and three Russian companies demonstrates that the meddling was real. They were directed by Vladimir Putin, a dictator, thug, corrupt oligarch and thief, but Trump has yet to disavow anything Putin has done or said. And until it was discovered that Russian President Vladimir Putin had interfered in the 2016 US election, it was unimaginable that social media platforms could be weaponized to undermine USA democracy. In the context of a hugely expensive, obsessively covered, impossibly dramatic presidential election, the Russian contribution on social media was piddling and often laughable. "Trump is weak, refusing to provide border security from Russian attacks", he tweeted defiantly.

Taking to Twitter, Trump said that the meddling occurred while Obama was in office and asked why his predecessor didn't intervene.

We don't know the impact, but we do know Obama did retaliate by throwing a lot of Russian diplomats out of the country and confiscating two of their choice properties. In addition, the administration can claim "a boost in funding for the European Reassurance Initiative, a security program that began under Obama; the development of new, low-yield nuclear capabilities to deter Russian nuclear attack; upgrades for missile defenses; and an approval of Montenegro's bid to join North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, which had been in the works for years".

Russians promoted Trump and disparaged Democrat Hillary Clinton in propaganda and field operations in the U.S.as part of a broader effort to subvert the 2016 election, according to Mueller's indictment last week of 13 Russians.

Obama also expelled 35 Russian government officials and ordered two waterfront compounds closed that the USA said the Russians were using for intelligence-gathering operations.

Do Americans believe that Russian Federation used fake news to influence the election in Donald Trump's favor? Every patriotic American should demand that our president stop praising the Russian dictator who attacks us and start faithfully executing the laws of the land.

Yun takes big lead at midpoint of Olympic skeleton race
Yun started the day as the top-ranked slider with a time of 1:40.35, setting track and start records at Olympic Sliding Centre. It was the biggest margin of difference in Olympic skeleton history , surpassing 1948 Nino Bibbia's record of 1.4 seconds.

"If it was the GOAL of Russian Federation to create discord, disruption and chaos within the United States then, with all of the Committee Hearings, Investigations and Party hatred, they have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams", Trump wrote.

Clearly, we need an electronic wall against Russian Federation far more than a concrete wall against Mexico. At the end of January, the Treasury Department published a list, but didn't impose sanctions on individuals doing business with Russian military or intelligence bodies.

"People say, 'Why don't you just check the currency or the IP address?' And as soon as you do that, literally that afternoon, they will change tactics", Facebook chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer told The Associated Press last week, before the indictment.

Even with best efforts, many acknowledge there is no way to be fully prepared. As Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano said, "The American people are entitled to know what went on under our noses and who knew about this and looked the other way". And no one should be more forceful in rallying the country to have a deliberate, organized, and strong response to any power that seeks to undermine the credibility of the United States. He says numerous obstacles to preparedness are "institutional barriers". First, voters could be more discerning of information they consume on social media.

They said that is why several major efforts targeting Russian Federation and its allies that have been rolled out by the Trump administration actually were initiated during the Obama administration.
